Historia
1945. In the waning months of World War II, Japan hid vast quantities of gold and other stolen valuables in boobytrapped underground caches all across the Philippines. By 1947 some of that loot was recovered, not by treasure hunters, but by the United States government, which told no one about the find. Instead, those assets were stamped classified, shipped to Europe, and secretly assimilated into something called the Black Eagle Trust.

Very predictable
Revisado: 03-03-24
I get that we follow certain writers and their characters for a reason; there’s a certain familiarity and predictability there. This plot was potentially very interesting, but it was so predictable - including the end, that I was disappointed. The over the top macho one-liners/cliches from Cotton Malone are getting a bit tired for me too. There is the sense that these books are churned out, using a template, where the plot and locations vary - but everything else is unchanged, to satisfy an audience that wants more of the same. It’s beginning to feel lazy, mechanical and sloppy.

I couldn’t get past the terrible recording
Revisado: 02-11-24
I read this in paperback many years ago and thought I would revisited in audio form after all these years. The first thing I noticed is the terrible recording quality; the sound is poor, but the narrator also sounds awful. Maybe it’s just the quality of the recording, but it makes him sound like he’s got a lisp, which is very distracting. This is the most disappointing book I have experienced on Audible so far.

Excellent story.
Revisado: 02-03-23
A great story and good to see the origins of John Shakespeare! The villainous Mr Topcliffe, (who existed in real life), is as good a villain as any that Dickens has portrayed.
