It seems like any other day. You wake up, drink a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. The contents of this mysterious box tells you the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise?

Thought provoking
Revisado: 02-28-23
Not sure how I really feel about this book. Think the title of the review says it, made you think. Made me mad at people's stupidity and ignorance. Then it becomes a book about discrimination. Again a good book for a club as it could elicit many a discussion.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Outside my norm, BUT LOVED IT
Revisado: 01-26-22
First of all Loved Ray Porter’s narration of this book.
First reason I even read this was because it was causing such a clatter in our book club groups. The consensus is you either really like it, or it becomes a DNF.
I was hooked almost from page 1. Not a sci fi reader but used to love all things Star Trek. The flashbacks are a little confusing at first but though out the story they become very important to “fill in the gaps”
If you want a book to make you chuckle, to make your eyes sweat and maybe a time or to just plain make you mad. This is it.

Historia
Fly Away is the story of three women who have lost their way and need each other - plus a miracle - to transform their lives. An emotionally-complex, heart-wrenching novel about love, family, motherhood, loss, and redemption, Fly Away reminds us that where there is life, there is hope and where there is love, there is forgiveness. Told with her trademark visceral storytelling and illuminating prose, Kristin Hannah reveals why she is one of the most beloved writers of our day.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Wow, perfect narration!
Revisado: 05-27-20
I am not a literary critic, you either touch me, have an impact on me or entertain me unless you bore me, then I’m done. This book however had me laugh, cry and be mad. It is funny and quirky and once your almost to the end, you want to go back and reread the beginning. Listener or reader, I hope you will enjoy as I have.

Guess wrong type of book for me!! The audible was hard to hear at times, think mostly due to the music. Horror is not my thing and listening to it is even harder to follow.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Intriguing
Revisado: 05-29-19
Little hard to follow as an audible unless you are paying very good attention as they give dates to bounce back and forth in time. Very well written and not quite as predictable as some books I have read. I found it a little challenging to start, slow maybe but a GREAT read
