Excellent and Convicting
Revisado: 02-14-20
I appreciate the author's transparency. Her insights into her own struggles are eye-opening and convicting. I highly recommend this to Christian women everywhere. Even if you don't think you struggle with envy, most of the women in your Christian community will probably be locked in a struggle with this form of discontent to one degree or another, so it is a good thing to understand and deal with in your own heart. There were a few places where her wording was less helpful. I would probably agree with her on those points, but the way it's worded doesn't sound right to me. Other than that, this is excellent.

Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

Worth the Listen

I received this book for free with my membership and I am so glad I chose it. Parts of it are hard to listen to, hard to face, but absolutely worth it.

Historia
New York Times best seller and Whitebread Book of the Year, Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney's new translation of Beowulf comes to life in this gripping audio. Heaney's performance reminds us that Beowulf, written near the turn of another millennium, was intended to be heard not read.

Fantastic Story, Fantastic Performance
Revisado: 10-26-19
This is one of the best stories I've read in my life. In a time where ambiguity reigns, it is refreshing to read a story with clear monsters that must be destroyed. Excellent performance by the translator himself!

Historia
A story of spiritual awakening, St. Augustine's Confessions is a fascinating look at the life of an eminent Christian thinker. Widely seen as one of the first Western autobiographies ever written, it chronicles the life and religious struggles of Augustine of Hippo, from his days as a self-confessed sinner to his acceptance of Christianity as an older adult.

Mostly good
Revisado: 10-05-19
I really like parts of this book. Certain parts resonate with me and I can acknowledge the truth in many sections. Particularly the part when he says (more or less), "You have made us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they rest in you." That said, his interpretation of Genesis is totally wack. I thought the narrator fit the book well. The chapter break down doesn't make sense to me. It would be nice if there were some explanation of how chapters are broken down so that we can switch from audio book to physical book and vice versa without to much difficulty.

Great Book, Terrible Narrator
Revisado: 09-13-19
I love this book, but I far prefer physically reading it over listening to this version. The narrator read it like he thinks history is boring. He also sounded like he was trying to put on a tone of importance to match a history book that just came off as really freaking annoying. People kept suggesting that I speed it up to make it less annoying, but then I really couldn't take it seriously. The book itself, however, is fantastic. It is a great resource on the early church, her sufferings and growth, as well as a good peak at the struggle to determine what books belong in the cannon of scripture.

Historia
The great adventure story tells of Odysseus, a veteran of the Trojan War, who - through a landscape peopled with monsters, sea nymphs, evil enchantresses, and vengeful gods - makes his tortuous way home to his faithful wife, Penelope. Shipwrecked numerous times, faced with apparently insurmountable obstacles, offered the temptations of ease, comfort, and even immortality, Odysseus remains steadfast and determined. Themes of courage and perseverance, fidelity and fortitude.

Love the narration, not the chapter divides
Revisado: 08-26-19
This is a great performance of this story, however the chapter divisions make no sense. It would make way more sense to end the audio chapter at the end of each "book" instead of cutting of chapters in the middle of a book or ending a book in the middle of a chapter. I would go back and forth between audio book and physical book and this made navigation difficult.
