Historia
This must-listen account of starting at the lowest rung on the production ladder among enormously famous and outrageously demanding people will be devoured for its insights, gossip, humor, and storytelling. Married and with a child, the author takes unpaid gigs to get a foot in the door and eventually ends up working on all seasons of The Sopranos, often named the best TV show ever.

Not really about The Sopranos
Revisado: 08-11-24
I, almost without exception, will read reviews of books, whether audible, kindle or actual page turners, before ordering. This was one of the exceptions and I can only blame myself. The book is basically a memoir of the authors professional and personal life and any information about The Sopranos is merely incidental to the memoir as a whole. I have nothing against this fellow, had never heard of him before, but had I known the books content I would not have ordered it. Also the narration, in my opinion, was very poor.

When he’s loaned a decrepit old baby stroller to cart his groceries home, the rickety squeak of the wheels comforts him. So do the sweet coos of a baby Willy knows can’t be real. Can it? In this twisted thicket, wishes come true—with a price.

Have read all of Hill’s work, as I have his fathers. I find his work similar to his fathers but with his own touches here and there. Thoroughly enjoyed this short story.

Historia
The first ever biography focused on the formative and highly influential early years of “rock’s first supergroup” (Rolling Stone) Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - when they were the most successful, influential, and politically potent band in America - in honor of the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and the formation of the band itself.

Competent biography of canyon
Revisado: 12-22-23
Knowing the writer was a big fan of CSNY made me a bit leery of the book, however he told the story in a very objective manner. The only flaw, for lack of a better word, was the way in which the author seemed to let go unchallenged, in some instances, the myth that political affairs in the US, including the end of the Vietnam war, was in any way significantly influenced by the “anti-war/anti-establishment” of the time, a group of which I was a part. However, a lot of old hippies subscribe to that viewpoint, as inaccurate as the facts clearly show that viewpoint to be. Overall, a very good read and of an interesting time in our history, and of four immensely talented individuals who created something truly unique.

Another strong tale from Mr. King
Revisado: 12-11-23
The story as it progressed was a very good “read” in that I listened to it in a very short timespan which is the norm for me in reading (and re-reading) the stories written by SK of which I have read all published to date. The narration by Justine Lupe was excellent. The theme of the story was unique and imaginative, I would place it as one of the best plot lines in Mr. King’s formidable history of interesting subjects.
As to the politics, I have always followed Mark Twains advice on that area as well as religion. The politics did not really add or subtract anything from the story so when the issue came up I just “read” forward as I always do in any work of fiction, no matter what “side” the author is taking, except my occasional spy novel or of course in non fiction books where politics can be very important to the matter I am reading about. As I say, in this case it had no effect on strength of the story. And I do not include COVID as political, although many people attempt to politicize it. I think it was very germane to the story.
All in all a very good book that I enjoyed very much and I would highly recommend it.

Good read until the I got to the “reveal.”
Revisado: 11-29-23
It was a very good “read” through the majority of book, and I kept hoping it would have a decent ending, something original, unexpected. Alas, it was not to be. Pretty commonplace, derivative and insipid end to an overall good story.

Historia
In The Civil War: A Narrative, Vol. 3, Shelby Foote follows the events of the war from 1862 through 1864, discussing the strategies of both the North and the South and assessing the performance of the Union generals. The book opens with the beginning of the two final, major confrontations of the war: Grant against Lee in Virginia and Sherman pressing Johnston in North Georgia. In vivid narrative as seen from both sides, he tells of the climactic struggles, great and small, on and off the field of battle, that finally decided the fate of this nation.

Revisado: 11-21-23
I have been a student of history since my early school days. The American Civil War era has always fascinated me. This three volume work by Shelby Foote is without a doubt the benchmark for anyone who has such interest. There is simply not anything equal to it available on the subject. Highly recommend it to all who want a complete understanding of this time in our great nation.

A different story of Deadwood
Revisado: 07-08-23
I am a fan of the HBO series Deadwood, and as such, knowing the book had very little to do with the story in the series, was hesitant to purchase Mr. Dexter’s version. I am very glad I did. An excellent tale, I enjoyed the words as written by Mr. Dexter and as narrated by Mr. Turner and highly recommend it to anyone who loves good stories.

With dramatic flair, Jeff Guinn delivers the definitive portrait of Bonnie and Clyde. These media-savvy outlaws appealed to America's Depression-era hunger for swashbuckling characters. Glowing radio and newspaper reports transformed these "public enemies" into celebrities - much like the cinema gangsters of the time.

Nothing really new
Revisado: 05-22-23
Have read most books written about B&C over the years. I saw no new information in this book. I’m left wondering what people mean when they say it was well researched. There is no indication in the audio book of what the authors sources were other than phrases like “Clyde told his family….” And “Bonnie told her family…” which I can only assume means that he based many of his rather odd conclusions as to the character of B&C in this book on information from those families. Information from the families is hardly objective enough evidence to warrant presenting as fact such statements as “Clyde never intentionally killed anyone,” a truly bizarre claim that, if not on such a serious subject, would be laughable. And this book is riddled with such statements that are not properly sourced whatsoever.
Some things he just gets wrong. There is no objective evidence that Pretty Boy Floyd was any where near KC’s Union Station at the time of the “KC Massacre” nor had anything to do with it at all. In fact most historians agree that allegation against Floyd is patently false. Yet it’s presented as fact in this book.
Also, on the narration side, Frank Hamer’s last name is pronounced “HAYmer” not “Hammer.” Hamer is a central figure to the story, kind of surprised they got that wrong.
As to the well known facts of Bonnie and Clyde’s crimes, I could recommend this book to someone who has little or no knowledge of them, as the author covers them very well. As to his assertions on what they were thinking, what their motivations were etc I have no opinion because I have no idea what credible, objective sources he used to form those assertions.
