Historia
In The Angel Of Darkness, Caleb Carr brings back the vivid world of his bestselling The Alienist but with a twist: this story is told by the former street urchin Stevie Taggert, whose rough life has given him wisdom beyond his years. Thus New York City, and the groundbreaking alienist Dr. Kreizler himself, are seen anew. It is June 1897. A year has passed since Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a pioneer in forensic psychiatry, tracked down the brutal serial killer John Beecham with the help of a team of trusted companions and a revolutionary application of the principles of his discipline.

Narrator did the voice of the novel justice; Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Revisado: 08-22-24
As aforementioned in the title, the narrator did a good job bringing the story to life. Though I’ve certainly found myself more mesmerized with a narrator than this one, his telling still had me on the edge of my seat. the story itself makes up for any shortcomings, though I can’t honestly think of any at the ,in many ways.
Speaking of the story itself, in “The Alienist” series, Caleb Carr manages to do something most writers of historical fiction, (at least in novels I have read, which I will admit is not a very great number), tend to miss out on: he includes real people who actually lived at the time of the story. These people were long gone from this world by the time he penned these books, but the characters are no less dynamic than those who Carr invented himself. In fact, it’s thrilling to me that many of those people who were not “real,”are inspired by one or more persons who did, in fact, walk this earth.
While their escapades ARE fictional, it is so easy to get lost imagining the once living characters, who were well-known staples of society, (high or otherwise), in this and the other novels in “The Alienist” series.
I had read the first two novels in paper format years ago, as well as watching the TNT show created from the first two books. I enjoyed these formats as well, but listening to the audiobook was different, in a good way, kind of a halfway point between sitting down and reading the pages of a novel, and watching a tv show. It comes easy for me to imagine that “show” playing out in my head as the narrator reads. (Though I do enjoy reading paper books very much as well).
I am very excited to move on to the next, and final (I believe?) book in this series, and if it is anything like the first two, it will not disappoint!
Above, I spoke of the audiobook narrator, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention genius behind Carr’s decision to change the narrator from the first novel , Moore, to the second, Stevie Taggart. to the second. It adds a great depth and wide perspective that I have never read in a book.

Historia
The year is 1896, the place, New York City. On a cold March night New York Times reporter John Schuyler Moore is summoned to the East River by his friend and former Harvard classmate Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a psychologist, or "alienist." On the unfinished Williamsburg Bridge, they view the horribly mutilated body of an adolescent boy, a prostitute from one of Manhattan's infamous brothels.

Historical fiction- psychological thriller
Revisado: 08-14-24
One of my favorite books of the historical fiction genre. I think it’s fantastic to be able to picture real people like Teddy Roosevelt involved in the story. It does a great job of incorporating the psychological thriller genre as well.

Narrator pronouncing a name wrong threw me off
Revisado: 04-13-24
I love the continued storyline of Repairman Jack, and I’m thoroughly enjoying this series. Normally I also love Christopher Price’s narrations of the books in this series. However, in several past books it is specifically mentioned that a a character has a last name that is not pronounced how it looks when you read it. His name is Russ Tuit, but rather than being pronounced “Too-it,” like it would appear, it is supposed to be pronounced like “tweet.” This may seem like an insignificant detail, and honestly, it is, but when you’re listening to an audiobook, it’s fairly obvious that the narration is crucial for the experience. In this book, the narrator pronounces it incorrectly several times, and as silly as it is, I noticed myself being immediately pulled out of the story, and feeling like shouting “TWEET!” whenever he mispronounced the name.
I don’t fault Price for this though. If I were a professional voice actor, narrating a large number of different books over time, and reading each book just once, I probably wouldn’t have remembered that detail either. So I think the fault lies with the people in charge of the scripts and recordings, as well as the direction given to Price.
Either way, I would still listen to this audiobook again, as well as the others in the series, and I still respect Price and enjoy his narrating style, please forgive my ranting about one particular gripe.

Struck by memories upon recent reread
Revisado: 03-29-24
Apparently it had been long enough since the last time I read this, that I didn’t remember most of the storyline. So when certain events started to happen, I got a rush of nostalgia for the last time I read it, as well as anticipation about what might be coming next. Great story, great characters, great narration. The voice Christopher Price is able to do for the character Anya, the accent and the hoarseness that would come from years of smoking, is really good. Just how I would’ve imagined it.

Historia
Repairman Jack has been tearing up the urban adventure scene ever since he was introduced in the New York Times best seller, The Tomb. Jack has no last name, no social security number, and no qualms when it comes to getting the job done - even if it means putting himself in serious danger. Hosts starts with a bang when Jack has to stop a psychotic's shooting rampage on a subway car - but there are witnesses, and Jack’s essential anonymity is threatened.

Not my favorite of this series
Revisado: 03-18-24
I am rereading this series, and I remember a lot details about most of it, due to the vivid imagery of Wilson’s writing. However, I found that only a few details of Hosts had stuck with me. I love this series, love Wilson’s writing, and I also enjoy Christopher Price’s narrations. This book just ranks lower than most others in this series, in my opinion.

Historia
Michael Corleone is returning to the U.S. after the two-year exile to Sicily in which listeners left him in The Godfather. But he is ordered to bring with him the young Sicilian bandit, Salvatore Guiliano, who is the unofficial ruler of northwestern Sicily. In his fight "to make Sicilians free people", the young folk hero, based on the real-life Giuliano of the 1940s, has made both the police and the Mafia his enemies.

The narrator’s voice is sped up too fast, but this is fixable with Audible app, and doesn’t impact the story
Revisado: 10-13-20
I had to slow the Narrator’s voice down to 0.8x or 0.9x slower than normal because it was impossible to listen to it at a normal pace, but this fixed the problem completely for me. I think tat at some point an error was made when this was edited or something, as I can’t imagine anyone listening to t a the pace at which it comes out when you first press the play button.
However, don’t let this keep you from buying this book, as I firmly believe that reading the book from which a movie comes is almost always extremely crucial when one wants to understand little details about both storylines, and that remains true about these books.
