Historia
The scholarship of theology and religion teaches us that the God of the Bible was without a body, only revealing himself in the Old Testament in words mysteriously uttered through his prophets, and in the New Testament in the body of Christ. The portrayal of God as corporeal and masculine is seen as merely metaphorical, figurative, or poetic. But, in this revelatory study, Francesca Stavrakopoulou presents a vividly corporeal image of God: a human-shaped deity who walks and talks and weeps and laughs, who eats, sleeps, feels, and breathes, and who is undeniably male.

Outstanding Overview of Yahweh
Revisado: 02-20-23
Dr Stavrakopoulou's overwhelmingly thorough research and presentation of Yahweh and how he fits into the pantheon of the ancient near east is astounding. Her unflinching portrait of how he evolved to fit his surroundings is enjoyably illuminating. I have yet to experience another work as illustrative as hers on this topic.
I highly recommend this book if you have an interest in this topic.

Good Contrarian Take that Should be Intuitive
Revisado: 12-26-22
Developing a "kill criteria" is a good method for living. Another good take from Annie Duke. I first read "Thinking in Bets" and it's almost like this book is a sequel. they're both easy reads and they both are very effective in causing me to engage in introspection and consider how effective my decisicion-making process is.

Surprisingly Entertaining
Revisado: 11-13-22
This was the first book I've read by AJ Jacobs. He has a refreshingly understated wit. Great read.
It was troubling to hear the experience of a man who underwent the self-imposed harmful brainwashing of Abrahamic religions. I couldn't help but observe how he seemed to change as time went on in his biblical year. By the end of the book, in an Orwellian fashion, he describes himself as becoming dependent on the illusions of a "big brother" in god and the beliefs associated with Yahweh-worship. AJ surely seems like a good guy, and I hope that the effects he suffered are not long-term.
With all that said, I was surprised at how uniquely quirky, independent, and smart AJ's perception of the world around him is. I look forward to discovering and reading more of his books.

Historia
The Old Testament is a fierce battleground for atheists and Christian apologists, with each side accusing the other of taking challenging and troubling passages out of context. In this handbook, Joshua Bowen not only provides the background to the Old Testament and the ancient Near East, but engages with hotly contested topics like slavery, failed prophecy, and the authorship of debated Old Testament books.

Extremely Well-Researched and Analyzed
Revisado: 09-30-22
Dr. Josh out together an amazing wealth of information from the best available academic and theological sources in this field. I learned a huge amount from his hard work and ability to look at all sides of an issue fairly and truly weigh the evidence.

Historia
Picking up where Bible expert Bart Ehrman's New York Times best seller, Misquoting Jesus, left off, Jesus, Interrupted addresses the larger issue of what the New Testament actually teaches...and it's not what most people think. This is the book that pastors, educators, and anyone interested in the Bible have been waiting for, a clear and compelling account of the central challenges we face when attempting to reconstruct the life and message of Jesus.

Well-Studied Review of the Bible
Revisado: 08-28-21
I shared Dr. Ehrman's bewilderment at the fact that these simple bits of research and analysis is not taught in church. Not much in the way of spin - just compelling and interesting facts.
