Historia
When level-headed Francie arrives in Roswell, New Mexico, for her college roommate’s UFO-themed wedding—complete with a true-believer bridegroom—she can’t help but roll her eyes at all the wide-eyed talk of aliens, which obviously don’t exist. Imagine her surprise, then, when she is abducted by one. Odder still, her abductor is far from what the popular media have led her to expect, with a body like a tumbleweed and a mass of lightning-fast tentacles. Nor is Francie the only victim of the alien’s abduction spree.

Very different from the time travel series
Revisado: 09-20-23
Blackout and All Clear are my favorite time travel stories and possibly my two favorite books in general, but I picked up this one because I've been to Roswell. The place is over the top, though there was no festival at the time and I met no silly characters as described in this book. The book is amazingly fun, witty, and - when everything is wrapped up at the end - clearly cleverly written. Each character is a well fleshed out addition to the story, even the irritating one you'll wish they'd just ditch somewhere. So much fun to listen to - I laughed throughout.

One of the best books I've read in a long time!
Revisado: 09-04-22
Amazing research; amazing story, amazing narrator who captures so many voices! I loved every minute of listening to this one. I visited Bletchley park in August of 2014 after reading about it in Susan Elia MacNeal's Maggie Hope series. The Rose Code delves much more into the lives of the codebreakers, and includes versions of my two favorite stories they tell at the park - about spouses who didn't know each other had worked there due to keeping their oaths, and the anecdote about Admiral Cunningham and the freshly whitewashed cottage. Even the author's notes at the end are fascinating - I loved learning the origin/inspiration for her characters. It's a gripping piece of historical fiction - I felt the stresses of the characters during critical moments in wartime and even more so the gaping emptiness they felt after losing that vital work and community. I love that this novel (and others as well) highlights the difficult and secret work these people dedicated their wartime efforts to, and am grateful that the house and grounds now serve as a museum and heritage site.

Too abridged
Revisado: 08-24-22
I couldn't follow the main character's proceedings as the story was too abridged. But the narration is spot on and I laughed out loud at so many of the comments objectifying women that would be so unacceptable today! It was still entertaining. Stacey Keach does a terrific job at the narration.

Barbara Rosenblat as narrator is magnificent!
Revisado: 08-24-22
Ms. Rosenblat blew me away with her varied voices - even the same gender same nationality characters had different voices. It was very difficult to imagine that the men's voices were actually that of a female actor - amazing work on her part!
The story started out slow, and I found that I wasn't too interested in the main character's holiday since she wasn't doing the treasure hunting hinted at in the beginning. But I kept listening, and the way it was all woven together at the end made the story good. I'm tempted to read it again to catch all the hints and foreshadowing - I'm quite sure the 'slowness' of it was just me not understanding it the first time through.

Revisado: 06-23-22
The author claims she was not a gardener when she wrote this book, yet she brought the gardens and characters alive for me in this tale. I will definitely seek out more books by Ms. Kelly! Thoroughly enjoyed it and found it hard to stop listening each night at bedtime.

So well woven, with tons of humor!
Revisado: 06-17-22
The research that went into this tale - like all Willis' stories - blows me away. She weaves it all into a tale of chaos and hilarity with an ever-patient main character who takes it all in stride. Fire Watch, Blackout, and All Clear are my favorite Willis titles, but after reading Bellwether, I'm going to seek out the rest of the books outside her time travel series. This one was just as clever and highly enjoyable.

Ava thinks love should be found in the real world, not on apps that filter men by height, job, or astrological sign. She believes in feelings, not algorithms. So after a recent breakup and dating app debacle, she decides to put love on hold and escapes to a remote writers' retreat in coastal Italy. At the retreat, she's not allowed to use her real name or reveal any personal information. When the neighboring martial arts retreat is canceled and a few of its attendees join their small writing community, Ava, now going by "Aria", meets "Dutch", a man who seems too good to be true.

Another brilliant Sophie Kinsella comedy!
Revisado: 11-03-20
It seems like these lovebirds are so far apart they could never agree on anything, and in any case a mesh of the two would be something fierce to behold! Still, I love how patient and respectful they are of one another - it's refreshing to find disagreeing characters who don't constantly fight. As always, it's served up with the extra dose of comedy that only Sophie Kinsella can bring, and Fiona Hardingham's performance is spot on!

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.
