Historia
Melanie Trenholm should be anticipating Christmas with nothing but joy - after all, it’s only the second Christmas she and her husband, Jack, will celebrate with their twin toddlers. But the ongoing excavation of the centuries-old cistern in the garden of her historic Tradd Street home has been a huge millstone, both financially and aesthetically. Local students are thrilled by the possibility of unearthing more Colonial-era artifacts at the cistern, but Melanie is concerned by the ghosts connected to it that have suddenly invaded her life and her house.

Jarring jumps from past to present
Revisado: 12-05-19
I oved the historical parts. However, I found the transition to "present" too jarring. So much so ,that I could not finish the book. This style of writing is not my fav, but it can be done well such as in Lauren Willig's Pink Carnation series.

One of my very fav authors and series. her work us full of Mystery, Intrigue, Romance ( well done ...NOT the bodice ripper genre) set in a well researched Historical setting. She has dome her homework and research well. As a armchair historian I appreciate this attention to the historic details.

Margaret of Ashbury wants to write her life story. However, like most women in 14th-century England, she is illiterate. Three clerics contemptuously decline to be Margaret’s scribe, and only the threat of starvation persuades Brother Gregory, a Carthusian friar with a mysterious past, to take on the task. As she narrates her life, we discover a woman of startling resourcefulness.

Historia
It had been Mother's secret and mine, one passed down through the de Winter women for generations. I would ensure it was kept that way, until I was ready to pass it on. When Anneke Sheldrake is forced to find a way to support her family after her father is lost at sea, she turns to the business by which her mother’s family once prospered: brewing ale.

Revisado: 02-21-16
I truly enjoyed this medieval tale of a woman brewer. While long, it was a fascinating read. I learned much about the period & brewing trade esp what was open for women st that time ( there is even more great info at the end in the authors historical notes- I enjoyed these as much as the book ) I highly recommend this to my historical novel loving friends who love period derail and a good tale. I look fwd to more books from this author! I say keep up the great work!
