So much history in this story!
Revisado: 04-13-24
The story may center on one show dog, but alot of background information surrounding many aspects of the dog show world are also discussed. I show and I still found many new insights and "hindsights" in this reading. This book was so much more than I exspected and in such a good way!

Historia
You are about to travel to Edgecombe St. Mary, a small village in the English countryside filled with rolling hills, thatched cottages, and a cast of characters both hilariously original and as familiar as the members of your own family. Among them is Major Ernest Pettigrew (retired), the unlikely hero of Helen Simonson's wondrous debut. Wry, courtly, opinionated, and completely endearing, Major Pettigrew is one of the most indelible characters in contemporary fiction, and from the very first page of this remarkable novel he will steal your heart.

I enjoyed this one so much! There is a senior romance, a culture clash, and finally all presidence dropped away to the heart of what really matters. A win good characters, story, and writing!

A little different in a good way.
Revisado: 01-17-24
I thought this story was a bit away from the typical romance formula. In my opinion, the difference helped the story. And running out into the woods with a cowboy to save a child is always a good premise!

Historia
A modern American classic and a family saga that spans decades, this is the story of the volatile Tom Wingo, his brilliant but troubled twin sister, Savannah, and the complex and damaging family legacy they share. Moving between the sparkling glamour of New York City and the vanishing beauty of the South Carolina low country, The Prince of Tides is Pat Conroy’s masterwork.

A grab you read!
Revisado: 01-17-24
I haven't been so invested in a story for some time. The slow layout of the family history keeps you coming back for another page. The only grievance I have with the story at all is the revelations of Luke's life. I found the end of Luke's life too odd and out of touch with this story. I followed this book with the movie and found Nick Nolte a perfect fit. Such a moving book for sure!

But, maybe a widely known spoiler is Tammy's life is very sad. This biography had many indepth details and paired well with Jessica Chastain's George and Tammy mini series.

Not the guy to fall for!
Revisado: 01-17-24
I don't think a little "I'm sorry" could redeem Grayson for me. His faith had far too many limits to be a hero in any story.
As for Kira, she was a weak leading lady, but at least her heart was kind. And she came through the story with stronger actions.

Historia
To most Americans, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. represent contrasting ideals. The struggle for Black freedom is wrought with the same contrasts. While nonviolent direct action is remembered as an unassailable part of American democracy, the movement's militancy is either vilified or erased outright. In The Sword and the Shield, Peniel E. Joseph upends these misconceptions and reveals a nuanced portrait of two men who, despite markedly different backgrounds, inspired and pushed each other throughout their adult lives.

Too much information to even process!!
Revisado: 02-13-23
I would have to read this book 7 times or more to pick up all the detailed information. The book is crammed with facts, quotes, and exstensively research sited. It is too much to catch it all in an audible version. I did really enjoy the narrator's impersonations of Malcolm X, King, and the Kennedys! So much history and challenge yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

In Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, novelist Jennifer Chiaverini presents a stunning account of the friendship that blossomed between Mary Todd Lincoln and her seamstress, Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Keckley, a former slave who gained her professional reputation in Washington, D.C. by outfitting the city’s elite. Keckley made history by sewing for First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln within the White House, a trusted witness to many private moments between the President and his wife, two of the most compelling figures in American history.

Historia
All of London is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Wulfric Bedwyn, the reclusive, cold-as-ice Duke of Bewcastle, at the most glittering social event of the season. Some whisper of a tragic love affair. Others say he is so aloof and passionless that not even the greatest beauty could capture his attention. But on this dazzling afternoon, one woman did catch the duke's eye - and she was the only female in the room who wasn't even trying.

Kind of "run of the mill" regency romance
Revisado: 01-30-23
This was my first Mary Baloah book. (I think also my last.) It was so, so. No big story. Slow layout and reveal. Sex scenes were minimal and not too spicy. This was just a plain Jane romance to me.
