This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Historia
Keras Selyrian is already well on the way to cutting his name into the annals of legend. He’s fought false divinities, thieving sorcerers, and corrupt demigods - and left them defeated in his wake. But he’s a long way from home, and Kaldwyn offers a different brand of danger than he’s used to. He’s already got a sword of unfathomable power, but it’s damaged and leaking world-annihilating mana, so he’s in the market for a new one. Possibly six. The more the better, really.

cliche, stereotype, puns, nostalgic references. this book is artfully making fun of the genera of fantasy in ways that left me thoroughly pleased with my purchase. this is a great first book to anyone who has never read a fantasy book or someone like me whos is tired of waiting for years for authors to release their third installment of their incredible series and is in need of a diversion.

Historia
In the grand storytelling style that is his signature, James Michener sweeps us back through time to the very beginnings of the Jewish faith, thousands of years ago. Through the predecessors of four modern men and women, we experience the entire colorful history of the Jews, including the life of the early Hebrews and their persecutions, the impact of Christianity, the Crusades, and the Spanish Inquisition, all the way to the founding of present-day Israel and the Middle East conflict.

Poor ly written, rapidly narrated
Revisado: 12-17-16
Neil must have forgotten about "show don't tell" and limited pov. Every engineering detail of every set is described, whether pertinent to the story or not, regardless of whether the character who's pov we're in would know or care.
The narratipn pace for the first two parts is an unvarying and rapid-fire narration that fails to help differentiate characters or add enotional range to the story. Third act was far better.

Historia
The Unincorporated Man is a provocative social/political/economic novel that takes place in the future, after civilization has fallen into complete economic collapse. This reborn civilization is one in which every individual is incorporated at birth and spends many years trying to attain control over his or her own life by getting a majority of his or her own shares. Life extension has made life very long indeed.

Poor Writhing
Revisado: 08-31-16
Preachy, Rife with excessive explanations, cliches, random changes in point of view, and misapplication of detail to less important story elements - these will greatly vex experienced readers. The conflicts come late, fail to build upon one another, and end almost befire we're aware of them. The futire is an intriguing one, but this story could be told in a third as many words.
See many arguments about which system is "best", without any definition of metrics. Find yourself convinced of a point of view, inly to discover that you're wrong (in the authors' eyes). Be very aware of the color of the fire hydrants, without knowing the hair color of the main characters. Mainly, experience at least four explanations of "nanites," each many paragraghs long, only to find that they are exactly what they sound like, and do just what you'd imagine them to do. The payoff definitely is not worth it.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

i'm hooked
Revisado: 09-05-14
What made the experience of listening to The Way of Kings the most enjoyable?
this writer knows his craft. he gives characters individual voice and personality as well as storied lines that cross with great pacing. none of the characters is meaningless or redundant even though there are one or two that are introduced as point of view characters only to die in the very same chapter. they provide the reader with an entertaining second perspective form a non-main characters point of view of a main character.
What did you like best about this story?
even the characters that are more than human are struggling with gritty realities like depression and having unappreciated or misused talents or irrational expectation. few character actually feel like there in control.
Any additional comments?
as someone who has read good and bad fantasy, resisting the urge to try and explain the magic of the world is a talent few authors have. this one skirts the lines in this book. i feel like if your going to call something magic you should keep it vague and let the readers imagination fill in the gaps.

The good news is that you have just awakened into Eternal Life. You are going to live forever. Immortality is a reality. A medical miracle? Not exactly. The bad news is that you are a scrap of electronic code. The world you see around you, the you that is seeing it, has been digitized, scanned, and downloaded into a virtual reality program. You are a Copy that knows it is a copy. The good news is that there is a way out.

i don't hold it against my friend for reccomending
Revisado: 09-05-14
What was most disappointing about Greg Egan’s story?
the publishing company must have printed the rough draft by mistake. major plot developments drop off and never picked back up, useless character have there stories re told multiple times and never contribute to the over all story, and the book end abruptly as though the author accidentally forgot the last third of the book somewhere.
What three words best describe Adam Epstein’s performance?
lackluster and weak. compared to the book itself this verbal recitation (wont call it a performance) is the least of my complaints, but won't be listening to books read out loud by this guy again.
Was Permutation City worth the listening time?
maybe - there were great concepts and moments in the book that gave it the potential to be very thought provoking. plenty of ethical and philosophical discussions on what defines a person and reality. i really lost myself in the world from time to time, but more often i noticed that the pacing was off and great ideas were being presented as major plot development only to be mentioned later in passing like the author forgot he was trying to do something with them. a story line that got repeated more than twice that added nothing to the story and should have been presented as a miner diversion at best was beat to death for some reason. overall i wanted this book to be great and maybe the final draft was, but that's not what i got to listen to.

One of my first tastes of trues science fiction
Revisado: 12-29-13
Where does The Man Who Folded Himself rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book explored so many avenues of philosophy and inner exploration that it may make you uncomfortable at times. For me this is one of my all time favorites. ( Enders Game(full saga), The Giver, Lucifer Hammer, Pandora's Star, and Dune) to name some off the top of my head.
What did you like best about this story?
It explored personal identity and sexuality without giving up anything, the book helped me mature and was fascinating and interesting.

In the violent country of Ludania, the language you speak determines what class you are, and there are harsh punishments if you forget your place - looking a member of a higher class in the eye can result in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina (Charlie for short) can understand all languages, a dangerous ability she's been hiding her whole life. Her only place of release is the drug-filled underground club scene, where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in.

An uninspired rough draft at best.
Revisado: 12-29-13
Would you try another book from Kimberly Derting and/or Casey Holloway?
Unfortunately no, I was in no way impressed by this book. The setting was dull and one dimensional, as was everything else. i felt like i was reading spark notes for what could have been a mild success among teens.
Has The Pledge turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not at all, I love fanatic, sci-fi, thrillers, etc. I have read tons of amazing books (audiobooks from audible) and would recommend almost all of them.
