Historia
Chava is a golem, a woman made of clay, who can hear the thoughts and longings of those around her and feels compelled by her nature to help them. Ahmad is a jinni, a restless creature of fire, once free to roam the desert but now imprisoned in the shape of a man. Fearing they’ll be exposed as monsters, these magical beings hide their true selves and try to pass as human - just two more immigrants in the bustling world of 1900s Manhattan. Brought together under calamitous circumstances, their lives are now entwined - but they’re not yet certain of what they mean to each other.

Rooting for Kava and Ahmed
Revisado: 02-03-25
I loved the first book and also thoroughly enjoyed this one. The story is imaginative and gripping. I read that a third book is in progress now and I can’t wait! I want Kava and Ahmed to fine peace in the world.

Historia
Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus. "The days are long, but the years are short," she realized. "Time is passing, and I'm not focusing enough on the things that really matter." In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.

Waste of one credit
Revisado: 03-05-24
This year, every member of our book club has to pick a book for us to read. This was our book for March. I couldn’t make it past the first chapter - it was so annoying. Gretchen went to law school, is married, and lives on the upper East Side in New York City. And she is unhappy! The book is supposed to be about how to find happiness. Instead I found her annoying and don’t think she is unhappy but just bored or spoiled. Don’t waste a credit on this book. I really don’t understand all the positive reviews. This is the first book that I didn’t finish for my book club.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Elizabeth Zott is quirky and endearing. I loved every minute of this book and found myself making excuses to find time to listen more. This was a great book with clever characters and a good story. A perfect read.

Melodramatic to say the least.
Revisado: 06-23-23
I agree with so many other reviews that this book is overrated. The performances by Meredith were so dramatic that I had a hard time listening to those chapters. The book started strong and in my opinion “jumped the shark” at the end. Didn’t see the ending coming but it was far fetched. I don’t get why so many good reviews.

Historia
Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

Confusing and Boring
Revisado: 03-31-23
No spoilers! This book was chosen by my book club. It was confusing and unbelievable in places. I stuck with it since it was a book club pick, but it is not a book I would recommend. To explain why I think it is confusing, I would have to give you spoilers. The narration was great.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

A very important book - a must read!
Revisado: 09-20-21
Forget what you know about prejudice and racism in the United States and read this book. I wish that everyone would read this book and learn how both blatant and subtle racism is in our country. This book made me embarrassed to be an American. I learned about slavery in elementary school, but never really understood how long impacting and how disgusting it was. This is an excellent book.

Disappointing once I learned JoJo Moyes is accused
Revisado: 01-27-20
of plagiarizing this book. Once I read all the articles about this book, I am not happy that I supported JoJo Moyes and bought this title. I am also disappointed that Audible and Reese would allow this to be one of Reese's monthly book. The story was great and the performance was stellar, but then to learn the negative press around this book, it just left me feeling very sad and took away some of what I liked about the book.

Historia
The day Anna McDonald's quiet, respectable life explodes starts off like all the days before: Packing up the kids for school, making breakfast, listening to yet another true crime podcast. Then her husband comes downstairs with an announcement, and Anna is suddenly, shockingly alone. Reeling, desperate for distraction, Anna returns to the podcast. Other people's problems are much better than one's own - a sunken yacht, a murdered family, a hint of international conspiracy. But this case actually is Anna's problem. She knows one of the victims from an earlier life.

Does Reese still read these books?
Revisado: 01-27-20
I agree 100% with the reviewer who called this book "a hot mess". This book was all over the place and I really found the main plot to be stretched to the point of unbelievable. I'm beginning to wonder if Reese herself isn't stretched thin these days with her TV projects and doesn't actually read the books, but just has a team picking them for her. This book was not that good.
