entertaining & informative
Revisado: 10-26-23
I have enjoyed the Baby Ganesh series. The mysteries are interesting. But learning about contemporary India keeps me coming back. NHK broadcast a documentary in September 2023 about a photographer protecting Himalayan vultures that migrate to Thailand. And this book presents the similar plight of Indian vultures. Religion, corruption, public health, Mr Khan writes "cozy" mysteries with a real world perspective.

Retro spy comic adventure
Revisado: 10-08-22
Pierre is treated like the most exotic foreigner--he's French. That"s your clue that this British. Ilsa only speaks-- what eastern European language? Not important, just funny. Claire & Jackson--channeling familiar English & American spy tropes. Tucker is the typical, no nothing blowhard. in these difficult times, this retro humor goes down easy.

Historia
At last, the definitive audiobook about perhaps the best cabin crew dramedy ever filmed: View from the Top starring Gwyneth Paltrow. In Ayoade on Top, Richard Ayoade, perhaps one of the most 'insubstantial' people of our age, takes us on a journey from Peckham to Paris by way of Nevada and other places we don't care about. It's a journey deep within, in a way that's respectful and non-invasive; a journey for which we will all pay a heavy price, even if you've waited for the smaller paperback edition. Ayoade argues for the canonisation of this brutal masterpiece.

Odd but interesting
Revisado: 11-14-20
I've been a fan of Ayoade since The IT Crowd. Travel Man, Apple & Onion, I follow him. His humor is so very dry. And quick. I had to relisten to a few passages. I enjoyed the biographical information more than the extended movie review. But hey, it kept me interested until the very end.

Historia
It's 1969 and Palm Springs socialite Maxine Simmons is planning a Thanksgiving feast to rival Nixon's stealthy maneuvers in the White House and Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon. With a catered menu to die for and a dining room that looks like it's been ripped from the glossy pages of a magazine, her entrance to high society is all but assured. Then comes the humiliation of being dumped by her husband of 17 years. Banished to Arizona, the disgraced Maxine languishes in exile. But then she suddenly gets an idea of how she can win it all back.

Hip 70s nostalgia
Revisado: 01-23-19
I was 9 in 1970 and this book reminded me of the fashion and culture of the early 1970s. I liked the Maxine's journey from conforming housewife to independent thinker. Robert and Charles are great characters--the type of people you'd like to meet. I enjoyed both narrators. They really captured how you'd expect the characters to sound.

So LA!
Revisado: 11-21-18
The ensemble's characterizations were spot on. It's a parody yet it reminds you of folks you know. The narrator was great at channeling the audience reaction to the plot twists(basically wtf?). I'm looking forward to the "next" season.

Maybe the best of the Rivers of London Series.
Revisado: 02-01-15
Would you listen to Foxglove Summer again? Why?
Yes, I'd listen again. Instead of London, the setting was the English countryside so that was interesting.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It was good to see Beverly Brook again. I'm glad she and Peter finally hooked up.
What does Kobna Holdbrook-Smith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I love how he does the different voices. I especially like Inspector Nightingale and Beverly Brook.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Supernatural crime in the English countryside.
Any additional comments?
Get to writing Ben! Can't wait for the next installment.
