Historia
While Annise Gäric and her forces march on Castle Hill to retake the northern throne, her cousin, Rhea Loren, wages a naval war against Blackstone. Meanwhile, Roan Loren and Gwendolyn Storm struggle to breach the gnarled, vine-choked undergrowth of the Tangle in their quest to reach Knight's End and learn more of the true purpose of the fatemarked. In the south, a Calypsian empress is murdered, and her daughters fight to claim the empire and wage a civil war against their estranged father's armies. In Phanes, slavery runs rampant while a rebel group fights to free the oppressed people.

Incredible
Revisado: 12-26-24
This series (only through book 4), is the perfection of a fantasy and medieval nexus. Digestible, absurdly effective character development, a unique fantasy perspective, and yet it never really overly taxes the imagination. Also love the recaps at the start of every book. Tied for best fantasy series ever for me with Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Shadow of the Apt and the Red Sister series by Mark Lawrence. As close to perfection as it gets.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Seth crushes.
Revisado: 03-03-23
Stephen King obviously does his thing. Have seen Seth Numrich in “Turn”, and he was fantastic. But Numrich’s stagecraft (audio-craft?) here was otherworldly. Dude crushes; will forever be a fan.

Terrific

Loved it. Regardless of your take on, or knowledge of, the fall of Rome, this was a great listen. Particularly enjoyed the character creation to personify lecture topics.

The Lowlands’ city states have lived in peace for decades, hailed as bastions of civilization. Yet that peace is about to end. A distant empire has been conquering neighbours with highly trained soldiers and sophisticated combat techniques. And the city states are its desirable new prize. Just WOW
Revisado: 06-11-21
I don't often leave reviews on Audible (I know, shame on me), but what a f%*$ing masterpiece, and the perfect complement for my paternity leave. Storytelling, plot, character development = 10/10/10/10. And the narration? I'd like Ben Allen to speak at my wedding, funeral, child's graduation, and her christening. All in all, just superb.
