Historia
Tabitha Walker is a black woman with a plan to "have it all." At 33 years old, the checklist for the life of her dreams is well underway. Education? Check. Good job? Check. Down payment for a nice house? Check. Dating marriage material? Check, check, and check. With a coveted position as a local news reporter, a "paper-perfect" boyfriend, and even a standing Saturday morning appointment with a reliable hairstylist, everything seems to be falling into place. Then Tabby receives an unexpected diagnosis, jeopardizing the keystone she took for granted: having children.

Relatable
Revisado: 12-16-23
Although the main character is significantly younger than me…so much of the story was relatable. The friends, family, career, and life issues that women deal with…especially black women is exhausting! I felt seen and understood as I read this book.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Empowering
Revisado: 06-03-23
I really enjoyed the story and the main character. The story follows Elizabeth Zott, chemist, as she challenges status quo and patriarchy. Anyone who likes to read about strong women who refuse to take no for an answer should read this book. The narration was also very good.

Historia
In this shocking novel of a young girl alone on the streets, Donald Goines delves into yet another facet of the ghetto experience - the dark, despair-ridden world of a black girl's soul.
Sandra took to the streets when she was eight years old and tried to fight off the hunger pangs by shoplifting and moving into the profits of drug pushing. Then she met Chink, and with him she discovered love and affection...as well as rape and murder.

Almost like true crime…no happy ending here
Revisado: 11-08-21
Raw and gritty. Decades later this story is still relevant and relatable. No happy endings here…just dark realism. The narration was great also.

Slow and steady. No real high point
Revisado: 01-31-20
It wasn’t bad, but is wasn’t good. It was interesting ...a little, but not exciting. It just kind of drudged song without a high point. I liked the concept of the story...it just never really went anywhere. It was a missed opportunity.

Fiction wrapped in history! Loved it! I was leery at first but was quickly won over by good story telling.
