Great read!! Michael Beck is the best!!

The reader, Michael Beck does a tremendous job on this title. I don't know whether he is from the south, but his voicings of the main characters are great!! To me (for what it's worth), he sounded a lot like Alec Baldwin with a bit of a southern accent. Not too slow, not too fast, not too distracting by trying to impersonate the characters. Just right.

The book itself is excellent. Grisham keeps you guessing right up until the very end. The people and places are colorful and well thought out. I'm not entirely sure that some of the main characters actions were very likely, but I suppose that's ok, they were at least plausible.

A really good read. Highly recommended.

This book held my attention and really made me want to listen to the whole thing all the way through. Grisham really leaves you wondering how to feel about the main character, who seems likeable enough NOW, but perhaps not so likeable earlier on. If you like Italy or things Italian, you'll love this book. I know nothing of either except for the food, of course, but still loved the book.

Michael Beck is a GREAT reader in my opinion. I specifically picked this version of the book due to Beck's reading of The Summons, which is also a great read. He maintains a good pace and speaks clearly. His rendering of the character's voices is very good without being distracting. I honestly plan on looking for other books read by Beck.

Not a great read

My guess is that this book would be great for someone who really likes comic books and that sort of thing. Personally, I couldn't finish it. It is very sci-fi / fantasy oriented. I enjoy books that seem remotely plausible such as Grisham's, Ludlam, and others. This story about some sword-wielding fellow who lives in a storage shed and delivers pizza using a futuristic car while a sci-fi skateboarder skis along behind him was just too much for me.

I work in information security and was initially interested in this based on a recommendation by others in this field due to references to encryption, etc. I couldn't make it far enough in the story to even find those parts.

If you like anime and comic books, this one may be for you. If you need any remotely feasible connection to reality, don't get it.

Good book, but poorly read

I think this book had the potential to be very good, but the reader simply moves too quickly to process what he is telling you. His attempts at character voices are also distracting, as are the intermittent musical interludes and other noises that I suppose are intended to add to the book, but instead detract heavily.

NOT RECOMMENDED.
