Historia
Loveday Cardew's beloved Lost for Words bookshop, along with the rest of York, has fallen quiet. At the very time when people most need books to widen their horizons, or escape from their fears, or enhance their lives, the doors are closed. Then the first letter comes. Rosemary and George have been married for fifty years. Now their time is running out. They have decided to set out on their last journey together, without ever leaving the bench at the bottom of their garden in Whitby. All they need is someone who shares their love of books.

Historia
Everyone refers to the St. Cecelia as “the Saint.” If you grew up coming here, you were “a Saint.” If you came from the wrong side of the river, you were “an Ain’t.” Traci Eddings was one of those outsiders whose family wasn’t rich enough or connected enough to vacation here. But she could work here. One fateful summer she did, and married the boss’s son. Now, she’s the widowed owner of the hotel, determined to see it return to its glory days, even as staff shortages and financial troubles threaten to ruin it. Plus, her greedy and unscrupulous brother-in-law wants to make sure she fails.

Awful Narrator
Revisado: 05-20-24
Sorry, had to return. Story had potential but only made it about 3-4 chapters and I couldn't stand the breathy, whiny voice of the narrator. May purchase Kindle version as I always enjoy a MKAndrews read.

Historia
Hallie Welch fell hard for Julian Vos at fourteen, after they almost kissed in the dark vineyards of his family’s winery. Now the prodigal hottie has returned to Napa Valley, and when Hallie is hired to revamp the gardens on the Vos estate, she wonders if she'll finally get that smooch. But the starchy professor isn’t the teenager she remembers and their polar opposite personalities clash spectacularly.

Had a lot of potential … but just not good. So manufactured. Although, if you’re looking for a trashy read, this will fill the bill.

Historia
Finlay Donovan is - once again - struggling to finish her next novel and keep her head above water as a single mother of two. On the bright side, she has her live-in nanny and confidant Vero to rely on, and the only dead body she's dealt with lately is that of her daughter's pet goldfish. On the not-so-bright side, someone out there wants her ex-husband, Steven, out of the picture. Permanently. Whatever else Steven may be, he's a good father, but saving him will send her down a rabbit hole of soccer moms disguised as hit-women.

Finlay Donovan is killing it...except, she’s really not. The new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head.

Don’t do it!
Revisado: 08-03-23
Well that’s 10 and a half hours of my life I’d like back! I was excited to read this book as I found the premise interesting. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to its potential. I agree with many other reviewers that the relationship between Lucy and Christopher was not believable and wouldn’t happen in this day and age, that Lucy was a total whiner (I felt NO connection to her), and that this reads like a YA novel (although there’s enough profanity scattered throughout to make it an “adult” read instead). Almost did a DNF but slogged on. The worst for me though? The narration. The ABSOLUTE worst British accent in the history of narration. Fingernails-on-a-chalkboard bad. So disappointed in this book. Could have really been spectacular.

Worth the read.
Revisado: 07-26-22
Full disclosure: I can't stomach books in which people are mean to children, or children suffer in some way. (I wasn't a huge fan of Where the Crawdads Sing or Before We Were Yours for that reason.) This Tender Land most definitely has children who suffer. But ... their bond and the story of their journey drew me right in. I think this one will stay with me for a while.

You Know What You’re Getting with MKA…
Revisado: 05-10-22
You know what you’re getting with a Mary Kay Andrews book … a light, enjoyable read with potentially a little mystery, and a romance included. This one’s no different. A classic “summer read.” I will say the “romance” seemed a bit rushed and maybe even a little forced … and honestly, very implausible. The narrator was too “sweet” and child-like for me, with nary a hint of a Georgia accent.
