I didn't want to take a star for it because I loved the book, but there were some mispronounciations. She often says diseased instead of deceased. It is distracting. "de-sees-'d" Just try to ignore it I guess. It is a great book and other than that she is a great reader.

Historia
The early Christian Church was a chaos of contending beliefs. Some groups of Christians claimed that there was not one God but two or twelve or thirty. Some believed that the world had not been created by God but by a lesser, ignorant deity. Certain sects maintained that Jesus was human but not divine, while others said he was divine but not human.

stimulating and informative
Revisado: 09-16-24
Difficult to follow at times because of the abundant references, but also informative because of them. I wouldn't want him reading every verse in every version obviously. It is well done and the difficulty comes naturally. In other words, if you've memorized the bible, this book would be easy to follow... but then... you would be a scholar (unlikely still one of the "faithful") and this information would already be quite familiar. Basically, Christians WILL have some references to look up, and as "Christians" it's a good exercise to start doing it. Not knocking Christians here; I get it: we wanna be good people and we want our opinions to be respected if not validated. Sometimes a bit lazy, but we wanna be good and claim to know. I can appreciate that desire to be good.

People are now exposed to more information than ever before, provided both by technology and by increasing access to every level of education. These societal gains, however, have also helped fuel a surge in narcissistic and misguided intellectual egalitarianism that has crippled informed debates on any number of issues. Today, everyone knows everything and all voices demand to be taken with equal seriousness, and any claim to the contrary is dismissed as undemocratic elitism.

Don't you just hate when people's political agendas crrreeeeeep in? How bad is it when authors go full hypocritical? It was okay until that point where I wanted to ask if we could please get out of your [author] issues and back to the title. It's oil and water trying to sell that bs under this title.

Historia
In this classic work, Professor George G. M. James methodically shows how the Greeks first borrowed and then stole the knowledge from the Priests of the African (Egyptian) Mystery System. He shows how the most popular philosophers including Thales, Anaximander, Plato and Socrates were all treated as men bringing a foreign teaching to Greece. A teaching so foreign that they were persecuted for what they taught.

Cannot refund
Revisado: 02-24-23
This is RACISM from the word go. I tried to refund, but appearantly, now, if you don't spend a full credit on a $7 book, you can't get a refund. Thhhhick with racism!! So sorry you're dead, George, because I'd kind of like to call you a knob today. Honestly, seeing as you could have titled this, "Of the Many Ways to Create a Racist," I have to say, maybe if it had a white guy reading... it would be better. Just sayin'. I arrived at this book by seeking philosophical growth. I didn't give two squirts what color these people's skin were! The author used philosophy to encourage racial discontent. I sometimes like to point out that the golden rule was not the catchphrase of jesus. That's a distant statement from Greek philosophers offering absolutely zero, crediting all to Egyptians, therefore people of color, therefore all of Africa. Says it right there in the very beginning. Doesn't stop there! So! Thanks for keeping hate alive, you racist knob.
oh and when you are quo-en flosifus, it's not omni-science or omni-potent. And have you ever met a person who could read horror-SKOAP-ess?

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Revisado: 10-19-22
I like Matthew McConaughey quite a bit less after listenneng to this and I can't completely say why. I liked him just fine before. Now I find him and this book a bit repulsive. Sure he fluffs himself and comes off somewhat proud. Maybe he could say - I'm M. M. and who are you street-rat? But now I feel like he WOULD say something to that effect. I don't think that's all it is tho. I really am sorry to be so negative. Somehow it's just... eew!

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Historia
Originally conceived as a joint presentation between influential thinker and best-selling author Richard Dawkins and former evangelical preacher Dan Barker, this unique book provides an investigation into what may be the most unpleasant character in all fiction. Barker combs through both the Old and New Testaments (as well as 13 different editions of the "Good Book"), presenting powerful evidence for why Scripture shouldn't govern our everyday lives.

There is hope for humanity
Revisado: 05-12-22
Leaving the church cult was by far the hardest thing I've had to do. I know there aren't so many that understand that, but I still wish our smug judges the best of luck. Hey. Actually, maybe we are being judged on another level, but MOST are failing miserably. I want to ask people, HAVE YOU EVEN READ IT!!?? It is a really good "story," developed over time, and still being written, where the monsterous anti-hero places himself in the role of overlord. And yet the book is elevated to a religious status. Don't forget the chicken or the egg here. Don't try to save the cult leaders; PLEASE, help with de-programming.
Great, great book. Best of kind so far, and these type are my favorite.
