Historia
It is 1940 and William, 12, Edmund, 11, and Anna, nine, aren't terribly upset by the death of the not-so-grandmotherly grandmother who has taken care of them since their parents died. But the children do need a guardian, and in the dark days of World War II London, those are in short supply, especially if they hope to stay together. Could the mass wartime evacuation of children from London to the countryside be the answer?

Great read for 4th-6th grader
Revisado: 03-09-24
Great storyline. Good for young readers to gather an understanding for what it may have felt like to be a child during WWII and be orphaned. Wish there was a sequel to follow the siblings onto their next adventure.

Not what I was expecting
Revisado: 10-03-23
The author is a great visual storyteller and cleverly told the story from 3 points of view from 3 time periods. She is gifted in her visual style of writing, no doubt. I wasn't prepared for the raw feminine abuse, abortions and unwanted pregnancies of this book. The choice to portray the multi generational abuse was clearly the authors purpose.

12 year old son LOVED IT!
Revisado: 04-13-21
Our 12 yr old son read this as a supplement of his Notgrsss Publishing History homeschool curriculum. A great historical fiction novel that really helped him envision life in that time period, vivid and full of details.
