Historia
Winner of an Obie and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and directed by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman, Yellow Face is as timely as ever, wrestling with issues of cultural appropriation, complicity, and artistic freedom. It’s brought to life in this audio-only revival by a stunning all-star cast (many playing themselves) led by Daniel Dae Kim.

Historia
Four freshmen arrive at college from completely different worlds: Lainey, a California party girl with a flair for drama; Tyson, a brilliant scholar and aspiring lawyer from Washington, D.C.; Summer, an ambitious, recruited athlete from the Midwest; and Hannah, a mild-mannered southerner who is content to quietly round out the circle of big personalities. Soon after arriving on campus, they strike up a conversation in their shared dorm, and the seeds of friendship are planted.

Worst Emily Giffin Book Ever!
Revisado: 07-21-24
This writer does not understand black culture and doesn’t seem to care. At times it was hard to listen to. I am a UVA alum. A black man at UVA from DC with not one but three white women best friends? And no mention of black friends aside from, maybe a frat reference. This lacks the type of backstory to make that believable. Emily Giffin, I expect MUCH better from you….this is an awful disregard for his culture. Also, the characters are thin. It feels like a Broke culturally-insensitive Beaches means Eat Pray Love. And the performance is scary bad. This is the worst EG ever. I think you should take this off the shelf and rerelease it after you have both spoken to black folks from UVA or any PWI and talked to more examples of children born to affairs…don’t let me start on Summer and Hannah’s characters. There is no way that Hannah leaves her fiancé in that way. This was just WOW!

Historia
James Patterson leads you into the darkest recesses of the mind with this chilling, immersive audio thriller. We meet Brent Quill, a frustrated actor trying to take his game to the next level. When he learns about the intensive Method acting process, he dives in deep—and immediately lands the lead role in a TV series about a brutal serial killer. But when the Method’s controversial techniques start to take over Brent’s psyche, the lines between real life and acting begin to blur dangerously. How far will Brent go to “become” the character?

Just okay
Revisado: 02-13-23
Great concept and execution but the build up was too predictable. I wasn’t attached to anyone in the story.

Twenty-six-year-old editorial assistant Nella Rogers is tired of being the only Black employee at Wagner Books. Fed up with the isolation and microaggressions, she’s thrilled when Harlem-born and bred Hazel starts working in the cubicle beside hers. Ugh
Revisado: 01-15-23
This book was interesting but too slow. I can’t say I liked it, but it was more my feelings about how the story unfolded than an actual issue with the writer. I stand by the assessment that it was too slow to develop, although I also appreciate how some of the details were necessary to appreciate or be confused by the ending.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Viola, you didn’t sugarcoat!
Revisado: 05-14-22
This woman made me want to know her and be protective of her privacy, her pain and her success. Viola Davis made you feel her from the soul out and I cried with her and laughed at and with her. This book makes you want to be her friend. She’s so aware and amazing. And she delivers this performance like she always does- with Brilliance!

Amazing but I want to scream
Revisado: 03-30-18
I loved most of this book. The character development was really good. At times, when the book changes perspectives, the first several
minutes are a bit confusing or jolting. I didn’t love the ending but I understand why it was at it was.
