A solid take on a flooded genre

Starred Tower doesn't do anything exceptional... Instead it does a bunch of a average things really well. The characters are good. The story and plot is solid and it packs in enough stats and power-ups for all the LitRPG lovers out there. It combines two or three of different genres but does them in a pretty interesting fashion. All the while with a pretty good overarching plot to keep things moving and the story together.

Not Bad For Half A Book

This book gets a lot of bad rap... It deserves some of it but not all. Yes, the humor is juvenile but All the land books have Frat Boy humor. If you made it to book 8 without knowing that then I'm not sure what your looking for by reading reviews. I don't consider that to be a negative... There's nothing wrong with a cheap laugh, especially in a fantasy book.

No, the main problem I have with Monsters, is that nothing happens. The book is more than 16 hours long... and NOTHING HAPPENS. The whole book is the MC checking his prompts, deciding, on his power ups, and killing like 4 monsters.... That's it..... NOTHING else happens.

AK has done an excellent job of seeding his books with plot hooks for the future. There's tons of them, and each book adds more.. That's a good thing, however how can you go an ENTIRE book without resolving anything. He ends the book exactly as it started, with nothing being resolved or changed.

This should not have been book 8.. it should have been 1/2 or 1/3 of book eight. With how long it's taking him to release book nine... (it's nearly 9 months late by my count) hopefully he's learned his lesson with some of the less than stellar reviews this book got and decided to pack in a bit more content into the next one.

A Gem

As someone who writes webnovels myself. Pirate Abba is the icon at the top of the mountain to me. This is a Game-lit novel, or an isekai novel if you prefer but unlike most books in the genera the action isn't the main point of the novel. It's about the characters, they have depth, growth, and lives all their own you rarely see in other novel.

Be careful though. The start of this book can be a plodding thing. There's LOTS of world and character building and... well the book is 40+ hours long, and book 2 is 60+ hours long. So if you need fast paced action-packed books then don't bother with this. You'll be disappointed ... and maybe disgusted judging by some of the other reviews here.. It's not that kind of book.

Still, once your in.. you'll be way in and you be giving up sleep and meals to keep listening.

Series drives me crazy....

Honestly, why does every character in the series feel like they can solve every problem by hiding it from everyone.

All the couples lie to each other all the time. They hide EVERYTHING from each other. Every single relationship in the series is based on a series of increasingly ridiculous lies and false assumptions. Then at the end the truth always comes out and then magically everyone forgives each other and lives happily ever after...

I know it's a romance, but at least use a different trope to mix it up occasionally.

Solid Military Sci-Fi

A solid over-all story. Not exceptional but definitely enjoyable. The characters , although not terribly well developed, are like-able. The plot is believable, although fairly simple, and the it's easy to connect with the story, as this book lacks a lot of the crazy technology that sometimes has a tendency to makes Sci-fi a but hard to relate to .

It's a little heavy-handed in it's political messages, and had all that space gone into building up the characters this could have easily been 5 stars.

However, it was a very enjoyable listen, well worth the credit and I will be continuing the series.

More Gold from Sanderson

I was hesitant to pick this one up at first because it wasn't typical fantasy. I finally caved and I'm glad I did. It's an awesome take on the superhero genera. With plenty of action and great characters.

Can't wait for the next book.

Good but, but hard to follow

An amazingly constructed world, filled with magic, mayhem and great characters. The only issue I have is that the author details things rather oddly. Sometimes the book feels like a history book to another world(which is kinda cool but rather dry). Other times he flashes from place to place explaining almost nothing until you have no idea what's actually going on.

I'd recommend two listens if your going to go on with the series.

Excellent Book

This is another one of those Romance novels that could easily carry it's weight in another Genera. It's has enough depth of plot, story, and character development to stand on it's own. Add that to the steamy scenes and it's an awesome book.
