Historia
In Victoria on a former prison colony, two exiled groups - the farmers of Shantih and the city dwellers - live in apparent harmony. All is not as it seems, however. While the peace-loving farmers labor endlessly to provide food for the city, the city bosses rule the Shantih with an iron fist. When a group of farmers decide to form a new settlement further away, the bosses retaliate by threatening to crush the "rebellion".

Excellent
Revisado: 04-06-25
Short and sweet and this narrator is perfect. Not a long book but every word counts, it *feels* longer than it is. Very much enjoyed.

Really cool window through time.
Revisado: 08-13-24
It was neat getting this window back into the mind of a guy that lived on the other side of the world half a millennium ago. The narrator cannot pronounce Japanese words but he’s not bad over all.

A fun classic, excellent narrator
Revisado: 08-13-24
While you shouldn’t go into this expecting perfect historical accuracy, this is a reasonably historically accurate yarn, and anybody interested in Japanese history and culture will probably have some enjoyment with this. And it is, after all, an authentic Japanese classic. Also, the narrator is perfect.

Among The Best Works of Fiction
Revisado: 06-03-24
Immensely thought-provoking, insightful, and genuinely profound. This is one of those rare books that you truly come away from as a somewhat changed person. I don't think you can read this without at least to some extent having your worldview altered.
I'm writing this review several months after having listened through the book. This one has stuck with me. I can't reccomend it highly enough.

Phenomenal book
Revisado: 06-01-23
Tim Curry’s voice for children is a little annoying, but that really only affects the first chapter. Aside from that his performance is fantastic, and the book itself is phenomenal writing. Garth Nix has got to be one of the most underappreciated authors of the century.
