Painful to listen to this one
Revisado: 03-28-13
These are a nice diversion for fluff books. This one, however was painful. The narrator was just awful, going from robotic to a tone at times that could best be described as snotty and judgmental. I hope to never listen to a book narrated by her again!

Eh, mostly hype with a few small gems
Revisado: 12-19-12
I really disliked the "high powered sales hype" flavor of this presentation. However, I did get some small gems out of this and even went on to purchase (and enjoy) one of the audio books promoted (Ridiculous Bliss by Matthew Ferry).
Overall, there was less than an hour of useful information in this audio.

Historia
Just Kids begins as a love story and ends as an elegy. It serves as a salute to New York City during the late 60s and 70s and to its rich and poor, its hustlers and hellions. A true fable, it is a portrait of two young artists' ascent, a prelude to fame.

Nice thought
Revisado: 11-05-12
While it was a nice thought that she wrote this and memorialized her friend, the book was a series of daily details of their lives. Smith's delivery was slow and i was only able to listen by turning the speed up so that she would sound like she was speaking at a normal pace. Suggestion: when performing an audio book reading lay off the weed.
There were, as others have stated, sections of the book where Smith became emotional while speaking of her friend, theses were the redeeming sections of the book.

Good read!
Revisado: 08-27-12
Overall this was a good book. I think it helps that I've always been a fan, but he has a "regular guy" aura and does not sensationalize the fact that he is a star.
I recommend this book to anyone wanting to be entertained while seeing what it was really like for one of hollywood's stars.

Historia
Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination. Rose Mary painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family; she called herself an "excitement addict."

Compelling autobiography, Horrible narration
Revisado: 05-20-12
The story was very compelling, as others have stated. The problem was the narration, I thought it would be so appropriate for the author to tell the story of her own life, but she was excruciating to listen to. Every sentence sounded like she was bored, it was as if she knew that to end a sentence with a rising tone sounded questioning or unsure, so she did the opposite, trailing down at the end of each sentence. The result sounded bored and almost a monotone. This is one that I really, really wish I had listened to the sample before buying it, I would have read the book instead of listening.

Another great book by Karen White
Revisado: 12-26-11
As i stated on my review of "The House on Tradd Street", I loved the story and overall the narration was good, I like listening to this narrator's voice. The book needs edits to remove the extremely long pauses throughout the book just like the previous title. Each time the narrator paused for an unusually long time I thought that my program had hung as it sometimes does. I would think that the audio could be edited to remove these long pauses which detract from the listening experience.
Otherwise I highly recommend this book and I look forward to more from this author!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A great story of a young lady who learns the history of a town and by doing so learns a personal history. I love the narration of Jenna Lamia, and I can believe that she really is the young character!
