Historia
After her father dies, March Middleton has to move to London to live with her guardian, Sidney Grice, the country's most famous private detective. It is 1882, and London is at its murkiest yet most vibrant, wealthiest yet most poverty-stricken. No sooner does March arrive than a case presents itself: A young woman has been brutally murdered, and her husband is the only suspect.

Entertaining, but somewhat predictable.
Revisado: 05-22-21
The story is fairly predictable for mystery fans. Still, there are some funny parts and it moves along at a decent pace. I was surprised that the female lead had so little to contribute to solving the mystery.

Historia
A major investor is on line one, CNN is on line two, and social media is exploding in anger. When you're a "leader under fire", the next few moments can be an incredible opportunity...or they can destroy your career. In the past, companies prepared for crisis with expensive, static crisis communications plans. The pace was slower. You had time to process and plan a response with your senior team and lawyers. But those old-school plans don't work anymore.

Very practical and sound advice.
Revisado: 05-27-20
Not necessarily earth shattering, but it's good advice for crisis situations. It's amazing how many leaders DON'T get the importance of preparing for bad events.

I enjoyed listening to this book very much. Great characterizations and a fun plot. Nothing too deep, but it is very clever.

Historia
Gruesome Illinois is a collection of true-life stories, most of them rescued from old newspaper accounts published over 100 years ago. Only a few of the events in this book - such as the Monmouth ax murders - have ever made it into print, except maybe in musky, old county histories. Even then, they are lucky to rate a paragraph.

interesting stories, but lacks a theme
Revisado: 01-03-20
entertaining, but I would have liked some unifying theme or lesson. What do these stories tell us about the history of Illinois? the US? Crime in America during the period?

Historia
In sports, everybody loves redemption stories, the underdog who no one believes in but through sheer hard work wins it all. But no one tells the stories of the players who work hard and don’t make it. In pro football, 53 guys get on the roster. Ten make it to the practice squad. And then there’s the 64th Man - that’s Billy Logan (Cena), who seems to always be one spot from glory.
