Historia
In Grounded, we meet Doreen as she’s struggling with the realization that she’s pregnant, weighing her own dreams and professional ambitions against the life she imagines is necessary to nurture and raise children well. Doreen’s mother was a stay-at-home mom who did everything in her power to ensure her daughters had the same opportunities as the white kids in their New Jersey suburb. Years later, the influence of her mom still looming large as her own children grow up, Doreen begins to see her mother’s choices in a different light.

Well done!!!!!!!
Revisado: 02-22-24
I enjoyed this personal essay!!!!!!!!!! The narration was excellent. The narrator's voice kept me interested in the essay. The author provides the reader with vivid pictures of her life: her family, her relationship with her mother (which I loved! So familiar), and her own personal insight on motherhood as she experiences it. The production overall was five stars! Well worth the listen!

He takes us into the life and work of Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Bono, and Bruce Springsteen, to name a few.

it wasn't a bad read...
Revisado: 09-30-22
It was nice to read about how rich people live. I enjoyed Jann's humble beginnings. I enjoyed how he built Rolling Stones, and the vision he had for it. I loved the employees who followed his vision for the magazine. Every time he talked about Rolling Stones I was invested. The narrator was good. The narrator gave the voice of what you assumed the author would sound like: well accomplished, living the High Life filled with drugs and sex and rock and roll. He is a care to only himself, and occasionally to other members of his family. It was excess at its best. I admired the author's honesty. I admired his honesty when it came to his own life, and the celebrities with whom he hobnobbed with. Overall the book was well written. the narrator did an excellent job. I was not left inspired by the author's life, but enjoyed being a voyeur: looking into the life, the private life, of a wealthy self consumed man.

Yvonne Durant was one of the few Black women writing ads for major brands in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Ambitious and determined, she ultimately won a position at a global ad agency in Milan, Italy. While her career was exciting, it was a challenge to be self-defining in a Mad Men world that had little experience with or respect for Black experience.

Historia
Night is one of the masterpieces of Holocaust literature. First published in 1958, it is the autobiographical account of an adolescent boy and his father in Auschwitz. Elie Wiesel writes of their battle for survival and of his battle with God for a way to understand the wanton cruelty he witnesses each day. In the short novel Dawn (1960), a young man who has survived World War II and settled in Palestine joins a Jewish underground movement and is commanded to execute a British officer who has been taken hostage.

What happens when you hold on to hope!
Revisado: 07-18-22
As I reflect on this book, I am struck by how beautifully written it is. Elie Wiesel's words are a testament to the immense power of faith and the incredible things that can happen when one holds onto even the smallest glimmer of hope. This book is a demonstration of what can happen when hope is lost, but also of the incredible strength and resilience that can emerge when hope is held onto even in the darkest of hours.
The author's ability to paint vivid and detailed pictures with his words is truly amazing. As I read, I found myself transported into the author's world, experiencing the sights, sounds, and emotions of the characters. Elie Wiesel is truly a Wordsmith, and I have a deep appreciation for his amazing talents.
One of the most powerful passages in the book, and one that has stayed with me long after reading it, is a quote from Wiesel's Nobel Peace Prize speech. In it, Wiesel warns of the most hideous danger: indifference. These words serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of empathy and compassion in the face of suffering and injustice.

He chose David Leeming, a close friend and colleague, to write his biography and granted him access to his correspondence. Absolutely enjoy this audio!
Revisado: 02-18-22
The author, David Leeming, did an excellent job of painting a vivid picture of James Baldwin's life, making me feel like I was right there with him throughout his journey. Every detail was thoroughly researched and presented in a way that kept me engaged and wanting more. James Patrick Cronin's narration was also top-notch, adding to the immersive experience.
Leeming's writing style was captivating, starting at the surface level of Baldwin's life but then diving deep into the emotions and demons that Baldwin grappled with as a writer and human being. It was fascinating to see how Baldwin's personal struggles informed his writing and how his experiences shaped his worldview.
Throughout the book, Leeming does an excellent job of balancing the personal and professional aspects of Baldwin's life, giving readers a comprehensive understanding of the man behind the words. I appreciate the care and attention to detail that Leeming put into this biography, and I truly recommend it to anyone interested in Baldwin's life and legacy. Leeming's biography has also piqued my interest in Baldwin's work, and I am excited to explore his body of work further.

I was hooked!
Revisado: 01-19-21
Kristin Hannah's description of Alaska is breathtaking. The landscape is both harsh and beautiful and reflects the main character's struggle to thrive in her new environment and in life. I listened and read the book simultaneously. I was hooked from the beginning to the very end. My Niece does not read many fiction books. Yet, I think after experiencing this journey the author took us on in this book, she may read more fiction. There aren't many books that have left an imprint on my mind, meaning, I don't think anything more about the story once the story is finished. This story on the other hand has...left me wondering about the main character. I wondered about Alaska. I thought about the power of hope and love. Regret and pain. Loss and restoration. Kudos to Kristin Hannah and this story. I was impressed and enjoyed the narrator of this Audible immensely.

Revisado: 01-30-20
Excellent 👌 book. The narrator Ramon de Ocampo was awesome! The author Randy Ribay kept my interest through out the whole story. The main character's search for the truth did not turn out the way he expected, and the reader is also locked in as the main character digs deep to unvail the truth. Ribay's description of the Philippines is rich with details and the character s really come alive in this story. Nothing is ever as it appears 😉

It has been a long time since I read a good book! From the narration to the main character and the plot, this story kept me listening. The author has a true talent in making words seem like melodies from a song. She uses colors to describe the characters' moods and her description of the characters in the story are rich and vivid. There is an incredible dance with time, an interweaving between the past and the present! Towards the end of the book, one is surprised and the author leaves the reader wanting more. . . AWESOME!
