Funded by the U.S. Reparations Act and a consortium of billionaires, Kingsland rose from the sea to become a haven for Black excellence—and one of the richest nations in the world. But as its 10th anniversary nears, a series of shocking murders rocks the island. Enter Jamison Wright. An elite profiler lured away from the FBI with an offer no one could refuse: a new life in Kingsland for him and his family. But the deeper he digs into the killings, the more he realizes that Kingsland isn’t just a utopia—it’s a mystery wrapped in surveillance, secrets, and power plays far beyond his imagination.

Loved everything about the story. It was a little predictable but I was hooked from the start. This author doesn’t miss.

A Big Disappointment
Revisado: 04-21-25
I was so excited to read this book about characters in my age range, but as the story unfolded I was quickly underwhelmed. It was super boring. There was no buildup to the relationship. Like in love in a day after he was away for so long? The repetitive King and Queen was nauseating. The author could have done better with the story.

Just okay
Revisado: 03-16-25
The storyline was ok. Sebastian definitely got on my nerves. His on and off attitude was annoying and all the pet names were over the top. I love love love the female narrator but the male was awful. He did not sound like the character Sebastian was made to be. But it was an okay read overall.

It’s a Page Turner
Revisado: 02-21-25
Very well written and entertaining. But so obviously written by a White woman. Some of the characterizations of the slaves are so unrealistic and ridiculous. Lavenia’s naivety was so upsetting. If the author’s purpose was to entertain then she accomplished her goal. However, this story is so inaccurate of the authentic experience of the slave. SMH.

Soooo Good
Revisado: 11-20-24
Not my usual taste in fiction but this book was soooooo good!! It definitely needs to be made into a movie. I’ve already cast Method Man as Prime and Lauren London in my head. Lol. Will definitely read another title by this author.

Toxicity Not Romance
Revisado: 11-18-24
This was the most toxic romance story I’ve ever had the misfortune of reading. Nicki Strickland’s character was crazy. There was nothing likeable about her. This story only reinforces the stereotype of struggle love.

It’s a virtue the country appears to have wholly lost its grip on, but one Darren sees as his salvation. Disappointed
Revisado: 11-10-24
I enjoyed the other books in this series. But this story just had too many holes and too many elements that just didn’t make sense. And all of the build up over the Thornhill story for it to not have any real resolution in the end. I only finished it because I kept wanting to see how it would end. It turned out to be not worth the investment.

Historia
When crime reporter Jordan Manning leaves her hometown in Texas to take a job at a television station in Chicago, she’s one step closer to her dream: a coveted anchor chair on a national network. Jordan is smart and aggressive, with unabashed star-power, and often the only woman of color in the newsroom. Her signature? Arriving first on the scene—in impractical designer stilettos. Armed with a master’s degree in forensic science and impeccable instincts, Jordan has been able to balance her dueling motivations: breaking every big story—and giving a voice to the voiceless.

Historia
When it comes to law and order, East Texas plays by its own rules - a fact that Darren Mathews, a black Texas Ranger, knows all too well. Deeply ambivalent about growing up black in the Lone Star State, he was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could. Until duty called him home. When his allegiance to his roots puts his job in jeopardy, he travels up Highway 59 to the small town of Lark, where two murders - a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman - have stirred up a hornet's nest of resentment.
