Loved this read. The narration and storyline was very relatable and entertaining. It was also realistic in the way it explored human emotion. I will definitely return to this when I need a soothing story.

I loved this book this first round, so much so that I had to go back and listen again. Ok the second listen I picked up on the symbolism and hidden messages. What a beautiful, pivotal coming of age story. Each character was developed extremely well. I wish the author would have been alive to finish the sequel, but even the unfinished portion of it was promising.

I love Stephen Hyang’s affirmations for the most part but this one was embarrassing.
I was in bed getting ready to sleep but the affirmations on this one were so corny that I had to get up and shut it off. Very outdated mentality of “wife material.”

Every so often I like to take a break from the nonfiction section and indulge in a warm, relatable story. That’s what these authors do for me each time I read their books. I really loved the character development of each character. These books are long, but each hour feels like a comforting hug. I connect on many levels with the characters, as a black woman.
