Comforting storytelling
Revisado: 03-29-25
Loved this read. The narration and storyline was very relatable and entertaining. It was also realistic in the way it explored human emotion. I will definitely return to this when I need a soothing story.

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Important Literature

I loved this book this first round, so much so that I had to go back and listen again. Ok the second listen I picked up on the symbolism and hidden messages. What a beautiful, pivotal coming of age story. Each character was developed extremely well. I wish the author would have been alive to finish the sequel, but even the unfinished portion of it was promising.

Historia
The law of attraction is based on the idea that everything in the universe has a polarity, meaning that everything - from the food you eat to the people you talk to, to the things you say to the things you think - contains either a positive or a negative kind of energy. Notice that being with people who complain or rant a lot tends to make you feel bad, even though you're not exactly experiencing what they're going through - that's the law of attraction working its magic. When you focus on negative stuff, then more negative stuff will happen to you.

Cringey
Revisado: 01-28-22
I love Stephen Hyang’s affirmations for the most part but this one was embarrassing.
I was in bed getting ready to sleep but the affirmations on this one were so corny that I had to get up and shut it off. Very outdated mentality of “wife material.”

Just like a Hug
Revisado: 12-30-21
Every so often I like to take a break from the nonfiction section and indulge in a warm, relatable story. That’s what these authors do for me each time I read their books. I really loved the character development of each character. These books are long, but each hour feels like a comforting hug. I connect on many levels with the characters, as a black woman.
