I’m so obsessed with this audio, I’ve had to take multiple breaks to slow myself down in finishing it. The 2nd book isn’t being released until 11/18/25 and I’m not sure how I’m going to make it until then. Kingfisher is the hottest fae since Rhys and the bat boys. Do yourself a favor, if you like fantasy romance, this is one not to miss.

I liked this. Some MC series are too much, but this was just enough. Sexy without gratuitous violence or too much sex. Some people have complained that the F-bomb and language is too much, but it didn’t bother me.

I enjoyed the world building & found the concept to be interesting & somewhat original. I like the boys - including Beck, even though they do some things that understandably cause a rift in their burgeoning relationship with Riley. The frustrating part comes in with Riley - she is constantly saying that she’s not a damsel in distress…only to become just that over and over and over. The problems she creates are almost solely caused by her own stupidity, stubbornness, and baseless pride. I can give a little bit considering she’s only 17 - young and inexperienced, but I continually wished for a stronger, more intelligent, worthy female lead…and she continues to fall short of that. I’m a few hours into book 2, and very little has changed. She’s giving TSTL vibes and though I’m intrigued by the other aspects of the storyline, her inability to be even a little bit mature & play these people at their own game is tiring. I’m about one frustrating act away from moving on to another series. It’s weird too because I know these authors are more than capable of creating strong, intelligent, and savvy heroines - Hades is essentially the perfect balance between strong/smart/ruthless and warm/loyal/trusting - and Mera from SBS is an absolute badass…I was anticipating Riley to encompass SOME of those qualities, but here we are.

I want to preface this by saying that I have an addiction to audiobook romance. It’s my escape from the daily monotony & I have listened to so many now that I’ve unintentionally become a tough critic. I’m always searching for that engagement I feel when listening to a story worth investing in. They can be hard to find…I find a unicorn in maybe 1 of 20 audiobooks I listen to. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, but wow. The storyline was so different & unique - which is not easy to do in this genre. You have to be willing to accept certain limitations in plausibility that’s inherent in a fictional story. Some things probably wouldn’t be realistic or possible in actuality, but that doesn’t bother me. I absolutely loved Ari - he’s amazing because no matter how evil his deeds to others, his intentions and love for Adaline never falters….except for that 1st time they meet. I wish someone would love me like that. Holy shit! I also liked A. I felt bad for her at times because her life really does get dark at times, but Ari is forever her shadow, protecting her from a distance. The ending was realistic and maintained the integrity of each character. Though both main characters were dynamic throughout, they still remained true to who they were & didn’t expect to change one another. I loved this story - narrators were exceptional. This is definitely a rare unicorn story for me. I wish there were more audiobooks available by Lily White!

I had this in my wishlist for awhile for a rainy day. I listen to audiobooks like someone’s paying me for it (is there a way to make this obsession lucrative?!), and before starting this one, I was in a romance slump. I was tired of the same story lines & peaks & valleys (or lack thereof) in other stories. I knew this would be something sort of different, but in the wheelhouse of what I enjoy. I would say the a requisite for liking this sort of story is some understanding/acceptance of outlaw biker/club romance. I’ve listened to some great biker romance & some really shitty biker romance. Like any great story, a great biker romance requires a strong heroine & generally a broken, albeit redeemable male lead. Mae is not your normal badass, but the more you learn about her & her past, it becomes abundantly clear that she is among the biggest badasses…the fact that she had the will to survive 23 yrs & then to escape the only life she ever knew to pursue the great unknown, is proof of her strength & character. She was a breath of fresh air, truly. I wanted her to be happy. I cried at what she went through, and I cheered for her the whole way with increasing vigor. I also cared deeply for Styx - he is so flawed - he’s not just your average biker who had a rough childhood & is now the alpha-ist, most arrogant he-slut, etc…don’t get me wrong, Styx is an alpha, but there’s far more to him than those superficial attributes. Mae & Styx’s flaws make them real in a way that not all authors convey. To me, that’s the difference between a good & a great story. I greatly enjoyed this story & will continue with the series. The premise of the story is great & the narrators do an excellent job as well. 5*

LJ Shen delivers in this first installment of ASH. As in her other works, she is great at creating plot twists - surprising her reader, but also offering subtle hints of foreshadowing along the way to keep the balance. Things are not as they initially seem in Daria’s or Penn’s lifes. Their story leads you on an emotional rollercoaster before getting to their truths. As angsty as this story got, it was still overwhelmingly enjoyable for me. The ending was satisfying & cathartic after some of the heavy drama earlier on. I loved Penn! I also loved Daria because beneath it all, she is her own worst enemy…like every one of us! Like in every good story, I deeply loathed Daria & Penn’s foes (you’ll find out more on this if you listen). This was a good one. I hope the next book will be just as good!!

Let me just say without saying too much: I thought the flashback to the Liam tragedy gutted me in book 1, and that it wouldn’t in the retelling from Cole’s perspective. I was so very wrong. I needed to get an adult beverage halfway into the chapter. Whew that was a doozy. The best stories make you FEEL something though & it’s sort of a terrible & wonderful thing. Aside from that pit of despair - book 2 in this series was exceptional…better than I expected it to be. I didn’t like what I saw of Cole in book 1 and was apprehensive about liking him enough to get through this book, but I’m so glad I gave it a shot. It is a long one, but remember that book 3 is reallllly short. This one was worth a credit in my book. Excellent performances by both narrators. As awful as Bianca seems to be (she shows some glimmer of redeeming qualities in this book), I’ll continue with this series. I wish the next book was cheaper on audible though - as it’s so much shorter than the others it’s a bit inconvenient to spend a full credit on or $20+. That’s life though.

I flatter myself an audiobook romance snob, so I was a bit apprehensive because this was a high school romance…but I really enjoyed this! It’s a nice change of pace from an adult romance because the parameters of plausibility for this kind of story are a lot more narrow…it sounds like that would limit the storyline, but it doesn’t. This is the type of story where the greatest issue keeping the two main characters apart could have been resolved so much faster with proper communication, but that’s life sometimes. There were some unrealistic elements, but that didn’t bother me. I will continue with this series & very much looking forward to Cole & Sawyer’s book next.

I highly enjoyed this trilogy by Lauren Rowe. Reed Rivers is undoubtedly an arrogant jerk when he first meets Georgina - not to mention cynical, mistrustful, and emotionally unavailable. Georgina was the perfect balance to Reed’s cynicism & insecurities. Georgina was easy to love. Both she and Reed do so much growing throughout the trilogy & to see the culmination of that growth & abiding love at the end of this last book was extremely rewarding. One of the things that I love about this series is that Lauren Rowe keeps her characters very true to who they are throughout - ie Georgina’s character & personality make her believable in the position of an investigative journalist. It’s also easy to see how Reed’s personality traits & personal beliefs have catapulted him into his current position at the healm of a successful record label. I think the world building and descriptions of “that life”…of famous musicians, record label execs, and hollywood socialites felt legit & believable for me - Rowe mixes actual pop culture seamlessly with events from the RR world. I bet it’s not easy for a writer to do a Hollywood-trope storyline in a way that is original and believable, but Rowe does a solid job with this trilogy.

I’ve read/listened to a ton of romance & I’m a little jaded…it’s often difficult for me to finish series like this - esp. once the guy finally gets the girl because that’s often the only intriguing aspect of the whole storyline. Not so with this trilogy. I listened to the whole thing with genuine interest & felt Rowe rewarded her readers by closing each storyline touched on throughout the trilogy up until the very last few minutes. The love between Reed & Georgina also felt real & deep & I could see why they worked with one another so well - and I don’t always feel that way.

We also got an all-star lineup of narrators in this trilogy. Andi Arndt is a legend & Jacob Morgan…*cough cough*…or the other well-known name he narrates under…is EXCELLENT. He IS Reed Rivers…he created an image that felt very true to Reed’s character. Sometimes in Romance the narrator’s voice just doesn’t sound like what you’d imagine the character’s voice would be, based on the author’s description of them…this is not one of those times though. Both narrators crush it from book 1 to the very end of book 3.

Love Reed & Georgina’s story & I will miss escaping to their world now that I’ve finished the trilogy!!

Great Intro to Why Choose

I will preface this by saying that you have to commit to reading the series - or atleast past the 1st book, in order to see how things will turn out for Hades. This 1st book ends on a large cliff that might’ve been cruel if the 2nd book weren’t available yet! All aside from Hades’ relationship with Lucas is super slow-burn & will develop a lot more in the next book. I was happy with the narration - both narrators do a great job. What really did it for me was Hades being such a strong heroine. She makes it prettttyy difficult for anyone to consider her less than BA. In spite of her necessarily cold exterior, she carries a heavy weight on her conscience because of her past. I was happy with the back story of her past & felt like the storyline was original. It’s a bit out there, but this is fiction…sometimes life is more fun when you just go with it! There are a lot of sexual situations & if that’s not your scene, this series 100% is not for you. There is some intentional obscurity around the Timberwolf Massacre that will be resolved in the next books. I’m new to Why Choose, but I think this is a great introduction to the genre & it clearly works for Hades as a character.
