Historia
Hardly a day goes by when nine-year-old Laurent Lepage doesn't cry wolf. From alien invasions to walking trees to winged beasts in the woods to dinosaurs spotted in the village of Three Pines, his tales are so extraordinary no one can possibly believe him. Including Armand and Reine-Marie Gamache, who now live in the little Quebec village.

You’d better suspend disbelief
Revisado: 04-20-19
This story was too difficult to believe. There is too many “coincidences “ to seem real. And too many characters -who’s to be trusted. Who’s not. Even the solution of who done it seems far fetched. In addition, I felt the book went on and on and on. This is the first book of Penney’s in which I felt this way. However, the authors note at end makes this plot even scarier-if true.

Not up to par
Revisado: 05-22-18
This book was short. Two different stories within which were interesting but I was able to figure The Who-done-it way too easily! No “edge of seat” reading in this one. I hope this isn’t their new type of writing. If so, wrap the Murder Club up at 18.

Historia
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.

Senator Franken really hit the nail on the head many times about what we need to fix our mess. He comes across as kind, caring, humble and still funny. I hope he would consider a run for president one day. Not one boring part. All good!

Fascinating. I learned so much from this course. I liked the narrator who told more of a story than a lecture of facts.

The book is interesting on its own. However some statistics quoted may be misleading. I would take most of their "latest" research with a grain of salt.

Historia
Imagine undergoing an operation without anesthesia performed by a surgeon who refuses to sterilize his tools - or even wash his hands. This was the world of medicine when Thomas Dent Mütter began his trailblazing career as a plastic surgeon in Philadelphia during the middle of the 19th century. Although he died at just 48, Mütter was an audacious medical innovator who pioneered the use of ether as anesthesia, the sterilization of surgical tools, and a compassion-based vision for helping the severely deformed, which clashed spectacularly with the sentiments of his time.

From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

No Woman Was Free
Revisado: 03-24-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Invention of Wings to be better than the print version?
probably because of the tones/voices etc.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Invention of Wings?
when it became clear that a white woman in the south had no more rights than the slaves. just didn't get treated like an animal. They had very few choices open to them as far as education, career, etc.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
dialect and feeling. There were places where my heart hurt!
If you could take any character from The Invention of Wings out to dinner, who would it be and why?
i would take Charlotte out-so brave and full of stories and i admired her guts to do what she wanted regardless of the consequences.
Any additional comments?
this book is now one of my top 5 favorites of all time

Revisado: 03-24-14
If you could sum up The Midwife's Confession in three words, what would they be?
interesting, confusing, suprising
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Midwife's Confession?
the ending, don't want to give away
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
don't know
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Grace and her mother at the end
Any additional comments?
This book was a good read, a little long, but i think because of many intricate twists and turns with each character. I felt myself getting confused as to whose baby was whose and that was a distraction. Overall, I did enjoy the book-sort of a mystery too.
