One of the best books I've ever read!

I read a lot of books and it takes me forever just to decide on one. I always tend to be disappointed in one way or another but not this time. This is the first book ive read this year, out of 26 so far, that I loved throughout. I could not put it down and read it in less than 2 days.
This book was top tier for me personally. Not one annoying character, you know, the ones that seem to make all the wrong choices leaving you frustrated and removing you emotionally from the story out of annoyance. Nope, not one in this book! A literary feat for sure!!!
I am almost 35 years old and am an avid tolkien fan. I prefer fantasy novels and sometimes a good slow burn romance, set in a fantasy setting of course, but I only like ones that don't rely on repetitive, unrealistic erotic garbage, and that is nearly impossible to find. I picked this book when seeking a fantasy novel with no expectation of romance at all so it surprised me that, even though the book was in no way a romance novel, I felt like I just read the perfect one for me. Romance is not the point of the plot and yet it somehow made the entire plot possible and it was just barely nodded at. It was just beneath the surface and never in your face yet it left me swooning in the end.
****The Narrator was fantastic. The character POV switches could have been done better, but honestly, as long as you are aware of this from the beginning and know what to expect, you will get used to it quickly!****

GREAT NARRATION, SHALLOW STORY

People that enjoy erotic novels and quick-to-bed relationships thay dont rely on character development might enjoy this for a fun read, but not me. I prefer more of a slow burn where there is more anticipation and the torture of waiting creates excitement when the MC's finally succumb to their feelings. This was all instant lust with little explanation as to why these 4 men were so obsessed with her. It was all just so undeveloped and shallow that I sped up the narration just to try to finish but 70% through I decided to return it; I just wasn't invested.

The narrators though were AMAZING and I will be looking for other books they narrate. Stella Hunter is the only female narrator that didn't annoy me in any way and Jason Clarke, J.F. Harding, Aaron Shedlock, and James Joseph have swoon-worthy voices.

Story is good but what gets on my nerves is the repetitive use of the same words and phrases and used in every book: "I could have sworn"...
"gave a vulgar gesture" etc. You'd think the proofreaders/editors would notice this, especially considering just HOW often theye are used.

Best Slow Burn Romance

One of the best slow burn romances I've found so far and is not overly erotic, meaning there aren't pages and pages of sex used to serve as filler for lack of plot like most others. I listed to the entire thing is a day and the narration was wonderful.

I find the female narrator over the top and it irritates me more with each book but no narrator will appeal to everyone, so I respect her efforts regardless. The story is fire, but I do find it hard to believe any one woman can have as much of a sex drive as Elise but this is erotic FANTASY and cant be held to real world standards, so I try to remind myself of that when i find myself rolling my eyes. I do love the plot and wish I didn't have to wait again for the next audible book to come out

few errors

capital is not up to date for at least 2 countries and there was a mix up in both chapters (i believe regarding angola/agiers in first and guinea Bissau in second). pronunciation is off and he doesn't speak as clearly as he should (dhaka versus dakar for example) but otherwise educational!

would change nothing about the storyline or writing. Troy's voice is to DIE for. The female narrator was just okay, kind of annoying in my opinion but you het used to her. I would recommend this book 10 times out of 10.
