Historia
Here are the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths, stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. The legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes life into ancient tales, from Pandora's box to Prometheus's fire, and transforms the adventures of Zeus and the Olympians into emotionally resonant and deeply funny stories, without losing any of their original wonder. Learned notes from the author offer rich cultural context. This volume is a doorway into a captivating world.

The author of Cod and The Basque History of the World takes an extraordinary look at an ordinary substance — salt, the only rock humans eat — and how it has shaped civilization from the very beginning. Mark Kurlansky has produced a kaleidoscope of history, a multi-layered masterpiece that blends economic, scientific, political, religious, and culinary records into a rich and memorable tale.

Disorganized
Revisado: 02-10-24
There is so kuch potential for this book/history. As a rock, mineral, or esential part of our diets salt is facinating. Whats equally fascinating is how disorganised this book is. It follows neither chronolgy, or geography or culinary explorations. It jumps forward then backward, around the world and through different dishes. Good luck figuring out where you are. I was disappointed.

So much of our human body is made up of salt that we'd be dead without it. The fine balance of nature, the trade of salt as a currency of many nations and empires, the theme of a popular Shakespearean play... Salt is best selling author Mark Kurlansky's story of the only rock we eat.

Historia
ONE is a revolutionary exploration of individuality and enlightenment that answers the paradoxical question posed by contemporary intellectuals…how can I use the power of my own mind to create a purpose-driven life in a world seemingly without purpose? Jerome Michael McLaughlin draws on 35 years of immersive study into human consciousness, individuality, and transcendentalism to persuasively and poetically asks us to recognize how each of us as self-aware, self-sovereign, and self-governing beings holds the key to our collective destiny.

A weaving together
Revisado: 10-14-21
McLaughlin has taken us for a journey and it does not disappoint. On a voyage to discover consciousness and the operations of the mind we have a difficult time discovering where we are and where to begin. Perhaps because like Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle if we look directly at the idea we aim to measure we risk changing it or not seeing it for what it truly is. In One, McLaughlin gives us a glimpse at what it means to think about consciousness as a moving target. He asks us to look through topics — a blending of history, philosophy (old and new), science, art and life. If you do one thing for yourself this year, read this book. TWICE.
