Historia
Something evil is at work in Hyde River, an isolated mining town in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Under the cover of darkness, a predator strikes without warning—taking life in the most chilling and savage fashion. The community of Hyde River watches in terror as residents suddenly vanish. Yet, the more locals are pressed for information, the more they close ranks, sworn to secrecy by their forefathers’ hidden sins. Only when Hyde River’s secrets are exposed is the true extent of the danger fully revealed.

Best of Peretti's books I've read.
Revisado: 03-07-23
The best of Peretti's books that I have read.
Good story and reading.
It's predictable in some parts and some pacing issues, maybe, but on the whole, a good read.

Historia
To the forest on the shore of the Kingdom of the Isles, the orphan Pug came to study with the master magician Kulgan. But though his courage won him a place at court and the heart of a lovely princess, he was ill at ease with the normal ways of wizardry. Yet Pug's strange sort of magic would one day change forever the fates of two worlds. For dark beings from another world had opened a rift in the fabric of spacetime to being again the age-old battle between the forces of Order and Chaos.

Perfect example of a ripping yarn! Not pretentious
Revisado: 07-22-22
This is great because it doesn't pretend to be something more high-minded than what it is, a first-rate ripping yarn!
At this, it succeeds extremely well!
Although this longer author's version slowed the pace just a bit, it still moves quickly, carrying you along with the adventure.
Likable characters are stereotypical enough for many to relate to but still develop enough to stay interesting.
All in all, a very good balance for the light-hearted adventure it is.
EDIT: After listening to this again, I decided that, while the reader's performance is very good, he reads a bit slow for my taste for this type of adventure. This is purely a personal preference. I found my sweet spot was to set playback for this at 1.15x.
If it seems too slow for you, try this playback rate.
Enjoy!

Great book great reading poor singing.
Revisado: 11-29-19
Great book and well read.
However, Lord of the Rings is known for a lot of poems and songs and a great reader does not make a great singer.
So dropped it to four stars on performance.

Historia
Have we been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us? In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis looks at the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature.

Prophetic

Prophetic of the decay produced by the irrationality moral subjectivism.
For example, he curse of modern eugenics being used by the same people who once condemned the Nazis.

A good beginning to the story
Revisado: 08-06-18
A little long-winded in parts, particularly at the beginning, but it gave me a better feel of the characters. Overall very enjoyable beginning of an adventure.
Note this is not self-contained. To finish the story, plan on reading the series!

If you read any book outside the Bible itself, it should be this.
Deliberately avoiding divisive doctrinal debates, it lives up to its name, reaching across denominational boundries to all followers of Christ, supporting the roots of our faith with simple yet outstanding reason.
