The Best
Revisado: 11-03-24
Story after story, scene by scene, Switching Gears is the best anthology available today. Each of the eight stories evokes emotions in ways that are found no where else. And with the authors providing the narratives, the gut-wrenching feelings evoked are genuine and heart felt. If you want to "feel", give Switching Gears a listen, but be sure to have a box of tissues close by.

Stay Frosty
Revisado: 06-11-21
Whenever I hear a nasal, superior voice, a strikingly beautiful woman in a black pant suit and shining black hair appears in my mind. On closer look, she has laser-blue eyes and her exposed skin is cross-crossed with thin scars.
Alyssa Breshnahan does an outstanding job bringing Michael Year's characters to life in the Donovan series. In Adrift, Alyssa is challenged to include several children of various ages in her repertoire. She nails it!
The story, masterfully written by Michael Gear is skillfully read by Alyssa. Her performance brings each character in each situation into Quetzal-like focus, giving the listener a quantum-level experience.

Ghosts and Demons
Revisado: 03-24-20
Hal and Roberto find more adventure than two young men who grew up in a small town in the Colorado Rockies could have ever imagined. All because Hal's girlfriend, Cleo Mallawi, got herself murdered and died in Hal's arms. Cleo, it seems, was the living reincarnation of Cleopatra of Ancient Egypt fame. In her final moments, she asked Hal to help her find her way to The Island of the Two Flames, the Egyption afterlife for its ancient rulers. Of course to do so, Hal and Roberto are destined to travel to Egypt where they are pursued and threatened by tomb raiders, corrupt archaeologists, ghosts, and ancient demons. We are treated to hair raising plot twists and close calls until the story reaches its natural conclusion...or does it? Kathleen O'Neal Gear spins this tale as only a knowledgeable master storyteller can.
Charlie Thurston does a remarkable job reading the young adult fantasy. His dedication to the story artfully portrays Kathleen's skillful prose. Charlie conveys each scene as the author intended while he brings each character to life. The listener finds him or herself caught up in every emotion felt by the story's inhabitants. This audible is marketed to young adults, but I think readers of all genres will find it fascinating, and perhaps, educational.
Enjoy every moment Chalie Thurston shares Kathleen O'Neal Year's Cries From The List Island with you!I

Historia
Corporate assassin Tamarland Benteen's last hope is the survey ship, Vixen. With a load of scientists aboard under the supervision of Dr. Dortmund Weisbacher, Vixen is tasked with the first comprehensive survey of the newly discovered planet called Donovan. Given that, back in Solar System, Boardmember Radcek would have Benteen's brain dissected, he's particularly motivated to make his escape. The transition that should have taken Vixen years is instantaneous. Worse, a space ship is already orbiting Donovan and human settlements have been established on the planet.

The Multiverse strikes again!
Revisado: 10-01-19
The audiobook version of the third installment of the Donovan series by Michael Gear, narrated by Alyssa Bresnahan, does not disappoint. Ms. Brennan flawlessly depicts each character in spellbinding scene after spellbinding scene in the scifi thriller masterfully penned by Mr. Gear.
From the inconceivable instantaneous 30 light-year inversion (that took 50 years in real time), to the improbable relationship between Talina Perez and numerous quetzals, to the unbelievable transformation of Corporate Supervisor Calico Aguila, to the untimely death of Trish Monahan, to the ultimately fitting fate of Tamerlin Benteen, Alyssa Bresnahan expertly portrays each character.
One simply cannot listen to this audio without recommending it to everyone interested in good stories. Good listening, All!

A Time of Fire
Revisado: 09-22-19
It is a time of drought. The plains buffalo grow weak, the Wolf Bundle grows weak. I had been abused an evil false-dreamer of the plains people, and even the leader of the mountain people - the Keeper.
A new dreamer has been chosen but he is reluctant to follow his destiny. The lives of thebuffalo, and the people hang in the balance.
The Gears spin this marvelous tale of human spirit as only they can. Their intimate knowledge of the subject matter and human psyche give the audience an educational adventure to savor.
And Mark Bogart masterfully captures the realism and raw emotions of the characters throughout the story. Give this audio book a listen - you will be glad you did.

Sensual Intigue
Revisado: 08-21-19
The book Chickasa to Chickasaw, by Robby Ethhridge serves as a great historic record of the Mississippianan World described in such detail by Kathleen O'Neal Gear in the "Sleeps in Me" series. I recommend it for the serious student of the history of southeast North America just before and after contact with Europeans.
Ms. Gear's vivid descriptions of the setting, culture, and characters bring this series to life. In this audio version, we are treated to the reading by Lina Patel. She masterfully portrays each character, putting the listener in each scene.
Sora, young High Chieftess of the Black Falcon Nation finds herself in a bazaar mystery sparked by the apparent return of her divorced husband's reflection soul in his best friend's body. She tries desperately to unravel the conundrum while she is dragged into many sexual encounters involving her husband's wayward soul.
She knows that trusted people are conspiring to bring her downfall. If she does not respond correctly, she could die and her nation plunged into war. She must learn who the conspirators are so that she can take action that will prevent disaster. Give this book a listen, and a read. You will be glad you did.

Historia
The Civil War tore at the very roots of our nation and destroyed most of a generation. In rural Arkansas, the Hancocks were devastated by that war. They not only lost everything, but experienced an unimaginable hell. How does a traumatized human being put themselves back together? Where does a person begin to heal his or her broken mind…and does one choose damnation or redemption? For the Hancock siblings: Doc, Sarah, Butler, and Billy, the American frontier becomes a metaphor for the wilderness within—raw, and capable of being shaped.

A Must Listen
Revisado: 05-02-18
Alex Hyde-White does a masterful job conveying the emotions William Gear so skillfully renders in this American Civil War epic. The Hancock family of Northwest Arkansas was experiences the gammet of Civil War trauma from major battles, caring for the wounded, prison camp, partisan raiding, lawlessness, and other, more personal atrocities. The story is a study in human ability to cope (successfully and unsuccessfully) with the trauma the characters experience. Human traits from hate to love, greed to sacfrifice, murder to healing are demonstrated through intricately woven descriptions of environments and human interplay. Alex Hyde-White brings William Michael Gear's tale to life in a manner that makes the listener a first-person witness to the action. The work is a Must Listen!
