Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

love the narration
Revisado: 11-06-24
The first little bit of this audiobook is a tiny bit slow, but the nerdy enthusiasm and acting as more characters are introduced really makes the performance delightful.

Great story, amazing narration
Revisado: 10-26-24
Rosamund Pike is quickly becoming my number one all time favorite narrator. The story is great, but her performance is stunning. I am very much looking forward to her hopefully finishing the rest of this rather long series.

Nice collection
Revisado: 02-22-24
I liked this collection and the order it was set up in. Narrators are all good, but it's a long time with the same people, so it may be tiring for some. Taking a break for something else between the different stories may be helpful, but I listened to it all in a week or so and enjoyed it. A handful of word pronunciations bothered me, but it could very well be normal in different places.

Historia
Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

A history of a fictional world.
Revisado: 01-25-23
Unlike many other readers/listeners I went into this knowing what to expect, a history book based on a fictional world. I enjoyed the telling, Vance does a good job at narrating a work that many will undoubtedly struggle with because they aren't used to and don't enjoy these types of works. Fortunately for me I have a degree in history and have read much much duller texts in my studies. I really enjoyed the flavor thrown in where the fictional historical author references the "primary source" materials and the overall voice that's carried throughout the work. There were sections with much more detail and interest for me, but the ups and downs throughout the book mirror that of the flow of our own histories, so I can't fault him for writing it this way. The only thing I would change was how ending was slightly abrupt for me, and that I wish this history was continued until Roberts rebellion. I do hope that Martin will publish all the extra content he's written that doesn't make it into the main storyline at some point in the future, but until then, I did enjoy this.

Great narration and story.
Revisado: 12-07-22
I've heard about this series a lot over the years but hadn't gotten around to reading (or listening) to it. I have really appreciated the narration and I think Rosamund Pike has helped me enjoy the first book much more than I would have reading it on my own. Her depiction of various characters compared to the descriptions I had heard of those same characters from friends who have read the books is much more appealing.

I really enjoyed the authenticity of this performance. The story isn't anything like the movie for those who don't already know.

Great story and brilliant narration
Revisado: 03-05-20
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. The story was engaging, and the narration was done very well with a good range of character expression. I would recommend it to a lot of my friends and family that are interested in history and especially women's perspective of historical events. I don't have much of an opinion on the historical accuracy of the story because I focused more on pre-industrial history in my studies, but I feel like it does a good job covering some sociological aspects of the German population during the war. I'm always a bit of a sucker for details and data dumps in historical fiction, and there wasn't a ton of that here. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about how detailed an author is in their descriptions of objects and event, but I really enjoy it being on the heavier side.
