Gentle soft voices drift you to sleep
Revisado: 08-09-21
I've had problems falling asleep for years, and as I've grown older, falling asleep and staying asleep have become much harder. For several years my main treatment has been to listen to audiobooks that are not too boring and not too exciting in order to distract and calm my mind, just enough to keep my brain lightly interested enough to keep listening instead of stressed and wrestling with past, present and future Real Life matters. I discovered Get Sleepy several months ago and can't imagine being without it now. It is a wonderful aid to falling asleep naturally. The podcasts start with an introduction and a quiet easing you into getting comfortable and taking some slow deep breaths as your body releases tension and relaxes. Then the story begins, each narrator carefully chosen for voice resonance, tone, and pace. It's like being a small child and falling asleep to the comforting voice of your parent reading you a bedtime tale. For me, I drift into a relaxed easy sleep which lasts from 2 to 4 hours, wake in a normal drowsy state of mind, start the Get Sleepy story again, and fall back to sleep for another 2 to 4 hours within the first few minutes, rinse, repeat, and then gradually wake fully in the morning, feeling content, unstressed, and ready for whatever the day brings.

Historia
Julian Barnes' Man Booker Prize-shortlisted novel is based on Arthur Conan Doyle's extraordinary real-life fight for justice. Arthur and George grow up worlds and miles apart in late nineteenth-century Britain: Arthur in shabby-genteel Edinburgh; George in the vicarage of a small Staffordshire village. Arthur becomes a doctor, and then a writer; George a solicitor in Birmingham. Arthur is to become one of the most famous men of his age; George remains in hardworking obscurity.

Could not finish this!

This story was unbearably boring in the telling, although it could have been an exciting tale. Written in an alternating threads pattern with first a bit of George's story, then a bit of Arthur's story, then a bit about George, then a bit about Arthur, on and on, interspersed with bits about the unbelievably inept and biased police investigation of the events experienced by George and his family, what might have been a fascinating historical story was bogged down in a mass of heavy-handed dull language. Some writers can make the most minute details exciting and interesting; this writer makes even the action parts exhaustingly slow and wearisome beyond belief. I slogged through 3-1/2 CDs before finally giving up, skipping to the next to last CD, which still didn't tell me who actualy perpetrated the crimes and how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle ferreted out the culprit and managed to free George from prison and reveal the horrible travesty of justice which took place. I really want to know, but dread the thought of listening to a single paragraph more of this book.
