language is so important
Revisado: 02-12-25
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of A Language of Dragons by S. F. Williamson in exchange for an honest review. I really loved how in depth Williamson got on all the different languages and dialects the dragons had and the studying of their echolocation. Of course there was a whole story happening around that with war, politics and love, but I found myself focused mostly on the dragons. I liked this book and would recommend it.

Historia
FBI Agent Gardner Camden is an analytical genius with an affinity for puzzles. He also has a blind spot on the human side of investigations, a blindness that sometimes even includes people in his own life, like his beloved seven-year-old daughter Camila. Gardner and his squad of brilliant yet quirky agents make up the Patterns and Recognition (PAR) unit, the FBI’s hidden edge, brought in for cases that no one else can solve. When DNA links a murder victim to a serial killer long presumed dead, the team springs into action.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Head Cases by John McMahon in exchange for an honest review. This was a new spin on a story like Criminal Minds, but instead of the BAU, it's a group of specialized people who usually work at their desks and are thrown into the field. It's for a special case that could make or break the team. I really liked the characters and the storyline. I would recommend this book.

Historia
Faolan Kelly’s grandfather is dead. She’s alone in the world and suddenly homeless, all because the local powers that be don’t think a young man of seventeen is mature enough to take over his grandfather’s homestead…and that’s with them thinking Faolan is a young man. If she revealed that her grandfather had been disguising her for years, they would marry her off at the first opportunity. The mayor finds a solution that serves everyone but Faolan: He hires a gunslinger to ship her off to the Settlement, a remote fort where outcasts live under the leadership of His Benevolence Gideon Dillard.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Red in Tooth and Claw by Lish McBride in exchange for an honest review. This book had a great old Western/fantasy feel. I really enjoyed it and the characters. I love it when fantasy books can make you feel for the characters and want to be with them and adventure with them. This book was able to accomplish that.

Historia
After the long journey from England, Ellis arrives in America full of hope. James Fort is where a better life will begin for her: where she will work as an indentured servant to Henry Collins and his pregnant wife, gain financial security, and fall deeply in love with bold, glorious Jane Eddowes. But as summer turns to fall, Ellis begins to notice the cracks in this new life—the viciousness of the colonists toward the Indigenous people and the terrifying anger Henry uses to control his wife and Ellis—leaving her to wonder if she has sentenced herself to a prison rather than a new home.

Winter Hunger
Revisado: 01-03-25
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of To the Bone by Alena Bruzas in exchange for an honest review. I was pulled into this book by Ellis, Rowan and Jane. I thought the book was heading in one direction about the people who invaded the land and slaughtered the natives, but then winter hit. It became a much different, darker book about what do people do when it's winter and you have no food and people are dying from hunger.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Soul of a Witch by Harley Laroux in exchange for an honest review. This was an interesting story. It was a dark fantasy romance with lots of sex scenes. In between those was a story about a witch and demon destined for each other and to kill a god.

Historia
Bailey Meadows has just moved into the remote Topanga Canyon home of thriller author Jack Beckham. As his writer-in-residence, she’s supposed to help him once again reach the bestseller list. But she’s not there to write a thriller—she’s there to find Sam Morris, a community leader dedicated to finding missing people, who has disappeared in the canyon surrounding Beckham’s property. The missing woman was last seen in the drought-stricken forest known for wildfires and mountain lions.

Historia
My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It’s a hard job, and it doesn’t leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

Revisado: 12-03-24
I think Winter Lost by Patricia Briggs is my favorite book of the Mercyverse. I love all the books, but this one I want in ebook, paperback and audiobook. I was happy that Briggs delved more into the aftereffects of the Soul Taker. Plus there is a lot of Nordic folk lore in this book and that spoke to my roots.

Historia
The worst thing to ever happen on Hemlock Circle occurred in Ethan Marsh’s backyard. One July night, ten-year-old Ethan and his best friend and neighbor, Billy, fell asleep in a tent set up on a manicured lawn in a quiet, quaint New Jersey cul-de-sac. In the morning, Ethan woke up alone. During the night, someone had sliced the tent open with a knife and taken Billy. He was never seen again. Thirty years later, Ethan has reluctantly returned to his childhood home. Plagued by bad dreams and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things happening in the middle of the night.

Revisado: 11-25-24
I really enjoyed Middle of the Night by Riley Sager. I am constantly drawn to any book by Sager and the complex characters and storylines. There are subplots weaving through the story that keep you guessing till the last page and even when you're at the last page, you want to go back to the beginning and start again.
