Historia
In The Truth Machine, Michael J. Casey and Paul Vigna demystify the blockchain and explain why it can restore personal control over our data, assets, and identities; grant billions of excluded people access to the global economy; and shift the balance of power to revive society’s faith in itself. They reveal the disruption it promises for industries including finance, tech, legal, and shipping.

Great descriptions of Blockchain and the Future
Revisado: 01-26-21
I've been very active in the Blockchain revolution since the beginning. This book does a great job of describing what it's all about, including why it is the solution to nearly all of today's privacy, security, and trust in the world.
The concepts are challenging for many, but my recommendation is to read this book with a completely open mind. Let go of everything you know about money, banking, trade between buyers and seller, and security of information.
Try to imagine that you had the opportunity to reboot the entire world of business, money, and trade between people. Go into this book with the understanding that everything that has ever been built for these systems made certain assumptions such as paper-based, government-issued money, physical storage of paper, gold, etc., "trusted third parties" such as banks, and government-controlled money supply. These fundamental assumptions that underpin the entire world economy are no longer relevant in the internet age.

Historia
In 2007, a short blogpost by Gawker Media outed PayPal founder and billionaire investor Peter Thiel as gay. Thiel's sexuality had been known to close friends and family, but he didn't consider himself a public figure, and believed the information was private. This post would be the casus belli for a meticulously plotted conspiracy that would end nearly a decade later with a $140 million dollar judgment against Gawker and its bankruptcy. Only later would the world learn that Gawker's demise was not incidental - it had been masterminded by Thiel.

Fascinating, compelling, very human
Revisado: 01-25-21
This book is amazing. I'm so thankful to Ryan Holiday for taking the task of explaining the entire story behind the Gawker Media downfall.
Peter Theil is a hero of mine and in this book you learn much more about his inner thoughts and motivations as the funder of the legal take-down of Gawker Media.
You also learn about the motivations and ethics of Gawker's owners and editors. They were an early example of what's wrong in our media today, with social media fueled hit pieces about whatever and whomever they wish, all in pursuit of clicks that make money.

Historia
Leonardo da Vinci created the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and engineering. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry.

Simply amazing story of an amazing person
Revisado: 01-25-21
This was one of the best books I've ever read. Very well written and narrated. I particularly enjoyed being able to view the accompanying PDF while listening to the descriptions of the inventions, discoveries, and paintings.
This book covers Leonardo's entire life, including his inventions, paintings, personal life, and the period in which he lived. The book goes very deep into his personality, thinking processes, and techniques for how he approached his art and scientific inventions.
You will come away from the book with a deeper understanding of how this renaissance man changed the world. Guttenberg had just inventing the printing press in Leonardo's early days, so the idea of publishing books was still very new. Had it been more advanced during his life, perhaps more of his discoveries and inventions would have been published. And many of those would have been known to the public decades or centuries before they were published by other inventors.

Historia
Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower, consecutive presidents of the United States, were Midwesterners alike in many ways - except that they also sharply differed. William Lee Miller interweaves Truman's and Eisenhower's life stories, which then also becomes the story of their nation as it rose to great power. Listening to their story is a reminder of the modern American story, of ordinary men dealing with extraordinary power.

Good title. Book is a dud
Revisado: 05-14-20
I really wanted to like this book because I think so much of the two subjects. They were great men, and I wanted to hear a compelling story about their lives. But I found the book to be a hodgpodge of facts without any cohesive story that would hold my interest.

Pretty disappointing - Deep State Exemplified
Revisado: 10-13-18
I was really looking forward to hearing directly from James Comey about his experiences. But from the very beginning, it was obvious that he had a chip on his shoulder about "criminals." He has a score to settle from early childhood and he believes he and he alone can KNOW FOR SURE who is guilty of whatever he deems wrong. It explains a lot about how the deep state operates. They've completely abandoned the US Constitution in pursuit of making the country "better" according to their political views. They say they're tolerant, but only of those who share their political views.

You can say goodbye to today's Internet, New York Times best-selling author George Gilder says. Soon the current model of aggregated free content populated with "value-subtracted" advertising will die a natural deat. In Life After Google, Gilder takes listeners on a brilliant, rocketing journey into the very near-future, into an Internet with a new "bitcoin-bitgold" transaction layer that will replace spam with seamless micro-payments and provide an all-new standard for global money.

Insightful, compelling predictions for the future
Revisado: 07-23-18
This book lays out a perfect case for how the internet is fundamentally broken, how no amount of big data can compensate for bad data, and how security is not a feature to be added on top of software, but instead an architecture that must be built in from the beginning.
Gilder makes the case that #blockchain is the solution to what is wrong about virtually every economic and technological problem the world faces. If you think big data, automation, machine learning and AI are important, beware of #BigBadData. Unless we “fix” the ever growing problem of bad data, none of them can realize their potential.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

My favorite Audible book so far.

Absolutely a page turner! I kept wanting to hear what the next discovery was. Many twists, but all towards the climax at the end.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Incredible book! Every citizen should read this and reflect on what type of government he/she really wants. Sadly, too many people see the benefits of having a “big brother” government without understanding the drawbacks.
