Historia
Physics has always been engaged in the pursuit of expanding our knowledge of the nature of matter and the world around us. But how can you use experiments to further this quest? How do you measure the mass of a particle a trillion times smaller than a grain of sand? And, finally, why is all this important? In The Matter of Everything, accelerator physicist Suzie Sheehy introduces us to the people who, through a combination of genius, persistence and luck, staged the experiments that changed the course of history.

Sheehy did an amazing job telling the story of how curiosity driven research has profoundly impacted our modern lives, usually in unintended and unplanned ways. Her expertise as an accelerator physicist shines through in her attention to detail and deep knowledge of the subject matter. Accessible for nearly any audience.

Finally...the characters DO something!
Revisado: 10-31-12
Hyperion is a great introduction, but the reader is left wanting to know what actually HAPPENS on the journey these folks are making. This book addresses that, and does so in a very exciting manner.

It's no AFUTD, but it's good stuff for sure!
Revisado: 10-31-12
This book starts off VERY slow. I almost stopped reading it. Then it really picked up, and my patience was well-rewarded with an exciting hard scifi read.

Tons of story packed into a small book!
Revisado: 10-31-12
I admit, I was skeptical that a book this short would really amount to much. Turns out, I was DEAD wrong. This book had everything a great story should have, and then some! Seriously an outstanding book! The reading was well-done, and overall I loved listening to this during my drives. Can't wait for the next one!

Historia
Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

When I first started this book, I was bored, and not really interested in the ideas as presented. I'm glad I stuck with it, however, because the depth of this book turned out to be amazing. Excellent read.

When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Zombies, terrorists, special ops, and a fast-paced story. The reader is alright, the story is good, and while not usually my type of book, this one was fun. Worth a read/listen.

I enjoyed this book, though it had more of a fantasy feel than I would have preferred. Additionally, there are so many unresolved conflicts that I feel little was answered in this book. I look forward to a sequel.

This prequel to A Fire Upon The Deep is excellent. It takes place far before the events of AFUTD, but in the same universe and with a shared character. Story seems a bit slow at times, but the rest of it makes up for this, and it is all great.

Historia
The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of 30 million souls, to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.

Revisado: 02-29-12
I wasn't careful when I purchased this, and didn't realize that it was abridged. Performances were excellent, the book is pretty novel in concept, but I feel like it was missing something. Perhaps this was because it was abridged.
