Very Enjoyable Series
Revisado: 01-14-22
I agree with JosephGaff that this may not be the strongest book in the series. But I did LOL several times, even when I knew the joke was coming "Does anyone else think Jason joined a cult?" About 20 chapters in, I was pretty certain this would not be the end of the series. About 35 chapters in, I wondered how many more books will the series deliver? Without going into spoiler territory, as I look forward, I can see 7 or 8 minimum. Or, it could be that rare 'diamond' of a series that 'builds' to a final takeover in book 12.
I also agree with the anonymous MC vet who pointed out this was NOT anti-American propaganda. Anyone who thinks the USA is the best in everything and should be beloved by all, is buying into a lot more propaganda then you're accusing this book of containing.
I have thoroughly enjoyed Jason's adventure. I love the niece (possible sequel series?) I can't wait to read about how a few loose ends get tied up in the next book and then the bigger issues get resolved over the next few books after that. Great humor, fun dialog, expertly voiced, great character arcs. Definitely worth the investment of time and credits.

Worth the price, but not the time
Revisado: 11-23-21
I listened at 1.25 speed (first time ever) because Raphael Corkhill started out reading like he was Winston Churchill. Not - every - word - needs - emphasis. The story seemed gripping at first. Then it devolved into the typical zombies, German (Austrian) bad guys, attempts to take over the world. This has been written better and performed better many times. I laughed when we finally discovered what the cause of the "illness" was. It was obviously re-recorded (voice-over).
The thing I disliked most though was how after we, the readers, had already learned about a part of the story, the book described the same thing we already knew in great detail as another group within the story learned about the same thing. This happened a number of times. Also, while the book was mostly free of curse words (even given the shock of the events unfolding), near the end, the author couldn't resist throwing in a stereotypical military type with profanity laden bravado.
I see others have really liked this book. I hope they follow the series and reward the author for putting this one up for free. As for me, no thanks. I prefer the Gray Man, Orphan X and the Breakthrough series.

It turns out that surviving the depths of the labyrinth and helping stop a coup both tend to attract notice. If Hugh had his way, he'd happily go back to being just another anonymous student. He has more than enough to deal with already as he starts his second year, between his crushing load of schoolwork, training as a prospective candidate to the Librarians Errant, and navigating a long distance relationship.

Book 3 in a Series of what... 7 or 8?
Revisado: 01-24-20
I agree with others that the 1st two books built an engaging world and populated it with interesting characters. I really enjoy 3 to 4 book series. This 3rd offering makes it clear the author, John Bierce, has a much longer run in mind. I enjoyed learning more about how the abilities are progressing. It was however, quite a strain on plausibility to expect that outcome in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds. The last chapter was also disappointing in that even more will be expected from mere pawns in future books. I feel like the characters faced too much too soon while the readers are not even close to having an end in sight.

Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

Amazing Series!
Revisado: 09-26-19
I loved this series! I grew so invested in the characters by the end of Year 1 that I couldn't wait to find time to listen to the following years. In the end, it is quite an investment of time, but so worth it.
The progression of the characters year-to-year seems no natural. That progression is matched by each years' schooling focus on new training and challenges. It was such a perfectly crafted environment.
When all is read, all the battles fought and challenges overcome, this series has one of the most satisfying endings ever. I truly marveled at the last scene and felt so satisfied that my investment of many, many hours had been so amply rewarded.

A wonderful extension of the story with a great cliffhanger ending! The same cast of heroes and villains with nice insight into what the creatures of WoW think and feel when not battling players. i am very much looking forward to the next book in this series.

A wonderderful WoW tale set in Vanilla lands.
Revisado: 08-06-18
I really enjoyed revisiting the areas where I leveled as a young Orc so many, many years ago. I like how places and food and beasts in the story made me recall my feelings when first encountering those things. A great read for any Wow fan. Time well spent. You can even listen while grinding out yet another alt in the same areas.
Of special note: the narrator's (Ramon de Ocampo), Murloc voice. Loved it!
