The Division

I heard that the game the division is loosely based off of this book, which led me to get it. I love it, it is a wonderful book. However, and I am sorry about this, but the narration is absolutely terrible. For me, the story is good enough that I am able to enjoy it regardless, but this narrator keeps me from doing so 100% of the time.

A mixed bag of brilliance, marred by missteps

When you read a great book, you fear the sequel will retroactively ruin the story. Sanderson has never given me a reason to fear that. It is as perfect an addition to the existing story as could be made.

Dexter Is Dumb

I loved the Dexter books (Except 3 and 7). What makes them so good is that Dexter is the apex predator in an ocean of prey. His genius is unrivaled, and put to use in his constant search for satisfaction in the only way he can get it. In this book, this description does not fit to Dexter. In this book, the writing is done in a way that attempts to stretch out a rather simple story, and in doing so, it makes Dexter come off as a complete bumbling idiot. When you add this to the tiring and predictable story, it makes for a poor finale. I honestly caught myself rolling my eyes a few times because it was so obvious what was coming, and Dexter, the supposed apex predator genius, couldn't see it. Granted, I think it makes sense for him to not see what's coming if the book was written from a narrator's perspective, but in first person Dexter sees what you see and is too stupid to connect the dots, even when he notices it enough to actively think about it.
I would have preferred the open ending to Final Cut being the end of the series, even though I felt as if that book jumped the shark.
As for the performance, Jeff does a good enough job.

Please. PLEASE. Find your weird, violent, and unique voice again if you are going to continue writing. We all miss it, and know it is still there. Somewhere.
