Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Historia
When a young woman washes ashore on a Fort Lauderdale beach, Sloan McPherson of the Underwater Investigation Unit is called in to consult. Sloan’s instinct says murder, but even then, there are too many questions. For answers she reaches out to Gwen Wylder. The Miami homicide detective is notorious for being manipulative, bitter, a tyrant to her peers, and wicked smart. And she demands something in return from Sloan: fresh insight into seemingly unrelated cold-case murders and disappearances—and a possible serial killer trolling the Florida coast.

Twisty plot. Powerful characters. 5 Stars
Revisado: 07-05-24
Powerful, detailed, believable characters develop as the plot twists and doubles back. An intense, crazy ride with Sloan, trusted colleagues, petty supervisors, and a clever nemesis. (So, yeah, your everyday workplace and usual annoyances. Yikes!)

Revisado: 03-02-24
Hilarious dialog from captivating characters in challenging situations from John Scalzi (a reliable, madly talented creator). All performed with wit and panache but Will Wheaton, as usual, but never taken for granted!

Revisado: 11-03-23
Hilarious and at times entirely ridiculous writing by John Scalzi (I daresay, "as always") brilliantly performed by Wil Wheaton, complete with breaking voice at appropriate points and always clearly distinguisable characters. Thank you both (and your teams) for more great fun. :-))

Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

Beyond belief. So perfect and elegiac.
Revisado: 02-07-23
I want to write. I want to write like Don Winslow. This short story is tight, beautifully crafted and precisely worded, far beyond "just" a mystery. Listen carefully as the end approaches. (No spoiler here!) Ed Harris performs at his usual brilliant level, gently transporting the listener into the different settings and the essences (pure and vile) of the characters. A solid 5 stars.
