Historia
Rusty is a retired judge attempting a third act in life with a loving soon-to-be wife, Bea, with whom he shares both a restful home on an idyllic lake in the rural Midwest and a plaintive hope that this marriage will be his best, and his last. But the peace that’s taken Rusty so long to find evaporates when Bea’s young adult son, Aaron, living under their supervision while on probation for drug possession, disappears. If Aaron doesn’t return soon, he will be sent back to jail.

Great Story and Court Room Drama
Revisado: 03-17-25
Audible books are a major part of my life.Because I have listened to so many in various genres, choosing the next one has become a challenge. Presumed Guilty was a recommendation from Audible with great reader reviews.A treasured discovery ,Presumed Guilty did not disappoint and I cannot fathom how anyone could be.The book did make reference to the book’s predecessor INNOCENT(Innocence??) which made it a “results”spoiler but Presumed Guilty is no simple Whodunnit and left me so hungry for more that I am going to immediately purchase Innocent . For example One of my all time favorites is TEAM OF RIVALS about How Lincoln captured the Republican nomination and his subsequent cabinet . I knew the results but the story was a priceless read as was Presumed Guilty.

Relevance to today’s time and bureaucracy situation
Revisado: 01-03-25
Those that have viewed the Netflix version of NIGHT AGENT (an excellent thriller) ,as is typical with screen adaptations need have no fear of a spoiler.
This book stands by itself…. An excellent thriller read. While written before our recent election it (I hope) part if it illustrates the danger of an all powerful never elected bureaucracy.
Still it is an excellent page turner well worth a credit.

Xander Corey lives simply, sustainably, on the outskirts of Osprey, a small, quaint town in Upstate New York. He’s a librarian when the town’s budget can afford him, a good friend, kind neighbor, and also, a witch. And while that’s of no concern to anyone around him, there are others, non-humans, who have a vested interest in Xander’s family land. Xander knows something dark and dangerous is brewing. He’s just not quite sure what.

I am neither a prude or a homophile. There are explicit gay sexual scenes that are an integral part of the story just as their might be heterosexual sex scenes in a different book for the same effect. The important thing is that they advance both plot & story and are not stand alone salacious . If you are offended by such things don’t buy the book or fast forward through those few scenes. That being said the book is both clever and entertaining.

You probably haven't noticed them. But they've noticed you. They notice everything. That's their job. Sitting quietly in a nondescript car outside a bank making note of the tellers' work habits. Lagging a few car lengths behind the Brinks truck on its daily rounds. Surreptitiously jiggling the handle of an unmarked service door at the racetrack. They're heisters.

Hunted up a good book
Revisado: 03-15-22
Richard Stark was an author new to me. His character PARKER was supposed to die in the original draft of HUNTER,his 1st Parker novel but was persuaded by the publisher to not kill him off and he went on to write 24 novels in the series.
The character Parker is never going to win the "Good Man of the Year "award. He is flawed like Michael Corrlleone .This is his attraction but with much less polish. Parker is a smart robber with the brains to plan both heists and successful gettaways. He is definitely not someone you would want to double cross. If you are into crime/detective novels with a "film noir" flavor, the Parker series is for you.

Historia
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Sci Fi with tech Vision
Revisado: 02-05-22
The plot of WARSHIP is simple enough but unravels & reveals effectively and holds your interest. Like the Patrick O’Brien Jack Aubrey series (One of my all time favorites) set during the Napoleonic Wars the descriptions of shipboard life, weapons, situations ,technology , personalities & characters make for a good listen.
The descriptions weapon systems and technology of the future are well done and sound believeable . If such a thing as a warp drive is ever possible then the colonization of the Galaxy is also possible enabling the evolution of human cultures limited only by our imagination and the human condition both good and bad.I disagree with most of thenegative commments. My enjoyment comes from content not from my ability to figure out the plot result.
This is not supposed to be a whodunnit mystery.
I just went with it and enjoyed the cosmic ride.

Modern Mark Twain
Revisado: 01-28-22
Huck Finn ,his dad and wards,Tom Sawyer, Becky Thatcher, the Slave Jim etc. ....Twain's books like the Innocents Abroad and all others involving these characters....Lincoln Highway could be easily adapted and told back in the period of pre-civil war 1800s.
I did not agree with the negative reviews but understand if you are looking for an adventure story full of murder, violence, and intrigue this would Not be your cup of the proverbial tea. The characters and plot certainly held my interest enough to eagerly read on to find out what's going to happen next.. I was disappointed in the ending although I could see why and where Towles was going ,I do not want to do a plot spoiler. If the above description appeals to you, it will be a good interesting listen.

Elizabethan slice of life spy mystery
Revisado: 07-04-21
Good story, well crafted with Elizabethan period in the background. Always a pleasure to listen to a good story. Politics and intrigue are as much as part of the period as they are today. Just different harsher rules. The right and wrong of it must be deduced and is interesting but the main reason to listen is it is simply a good story, I detected none of the tech difficulties mentioned in other reviews.

Revisado: 06-16-21
Rosemary Sutcliff has one thing in common with Stephen King and Tom Clancy.....She is a Great story teller.
OUTCAST is a book meant for young adults. I am 73 and I thoroughly enjoyed both the story and the narrator. Sutcliff's depicts real people in Roman times. Cultures differ but Human nature is human nature. It gives you glimpses of similar people we might know today. But how things might have been in Roman times.

Well Read Classic
Revisado: 09-20-20
Oliver Twist was originally published as a serial from 1837 to 1839.Like today's TV serials from the Sopranos ,Downtown Abbey or 24 Hours the public eagerly awaited to find out what happened next.It helped sell a lot of periodicals.
Charles Dickens tells a great story with great characters. At the end he ties everything together as the public would demand.
It is not a "today" novel but read knowing it's historical significance ,it is still a Great one.
