Historia
In these 24 lectures filled with musical excerpts, enjoy a rich and multifaceted exploration of the trailblazing works and outsized life of this historically pivotal composer. The sheer outlandishness of Wagner's life makes for an endlessly intriguing story, from his desperate escapades outrunning creditors to his obsessive personal relationships to his utopian artistic schemes.

Mostly fantastic lecture series… Until the end.

I took no issue with the professors lively style, I found it engaging and enjoyable, personally.
BUT
I don’t know if this is due to oversight from The Great Courses, or if this is the Professor’s personal skew, but the way this lecture series ended gave me the impression of being one giant apology for admitting Wagner was a genius. Particularly as far as the interpretation of Parsifal is concerned, his commitment to the most dire interpretation as far as Wagner’s anti-semitism is concerned. I think it is certainly something worth thinking about, but the refusal to approach it from any other angle was extremely discouraging. All the while, throwing cold water on the idea that each person ought to come to terms with Wagner’s views on their own terms. I found that pretty insulting. The series really did end on the worst proper note.
Other than that, I thought it was time well spent. I learned a lot and it reignited my passion for Wagner, much to the probable chagrin of professor Greenburg, evidently.

Historia
After years of wandering in exile from Thebes, Oedipus arrives in a grove outside Athens. Blind and frail, he walks with the help of his daughter, Antigone. Father and daughter come to rest on the hallowed ground of the Eumenides, the Goddesses of Fate. It is the very ground that Oedipus was prophecised to die upon. An ancient tale of Gods, fate and prophecy, exclusively brought to you by Audible in a sensational new recording starring Hayley Atwell.

Less focused than the first, but narration still top notch

Best thing short of seeing an actual faithful stage performance

Incredibly well produced and well acted, the lines are performed exactly as I would have imagined reading them, a fantastic realization of a masterpiece of Greek Tragedy. Kudos to the actors, everyone who worked on the production, and the director for a delight of a listening experience that was as entertaining as it was enlightening to experience a play by Sophocles, even if it is only in auditory experience.
