Historia
A major North American hydroelectric dam is blown up and the largest off-shore oil field in this hemisphere is destroyed in a brutal, coordinated terrorist attack. But there was one factor that the terrorists didn't take into account when they struck the Capitana platform off the coast of Colombia—slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform—and that was the Capitana crew chief Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun.

A excellent Sci Fi series
Revisado: 01-24-16
It is apparent that Mr Scalzi is a fan of Robert Heinlein and other 1950/60's authors. Like Heinlein Scalzi gives a subtle physics and math lesson with every book.
The characters are well built and carried throughout the series.
I just happened on the first book and was hooked. It may be that the hero is just a little bit older than me and I identify with the feelings.
You can't read/listen to just one.
The narration is very good.

Historia
After a high-school football star dies in a late-night motorcycle collision with a wild pig, the boy's wealthy father comes up with a creative scheme to rid Blanco County of the feral pests: He tattoos the ear of one particular pig, then offers a $50,000 reward for anyone who shoots it. Game warden John Marlin is not pleased-chiefly because the bounty is likely to bring a wave of poachers and trespassers to the area. The tension rises even higher when the death of the local boy turns out to be more complicated than it originally appeared.

Just good ole hill country folks
Revisado: 06-09-15
Looks like I am in for the long haul for the whole series. The author knows the area and folks of which he writes.
This book is much better as he concentrates on the Hill Country folks rather than the Austin Liberals.
The characters are some I have known or am possibly related to.

Historia
Welcome to Ben Rehder's Blanco County, Texas, where the right to bear arms is about to go very, very wrong. In Gun Shy, the National Weapons Alliance rally in support of every American's right to bear arms is meant to garner huge publicity. And the host of the event is none other than the NWA's newest spokesman, handsome country superstar Mitch Campbell. What nobody suspects is that the Stetson-wearing, gun-toting, bull-riding Campbell is a fraud.

Interesting
Revisado: 06-04-15
What did you love best about Gun Shy?
The setting and the characters are great. I could identify with the local area and swear I know some of those folks
What other book might you compare Gun Shy to and why?
Any other Ben Rehder books
Which scene was your favorite?
The concert
Any additional comments?
My only problem with this book is I think the author has spent too much time in Austin Texas and my be drinking the liberal kool aid. He seems to knock the 2nd amendment culture but cant quite bring himself to risk pissing off these folks by actually saying he is anti-gun.
