Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Enlightening , fun to listen but a bit dated
Revisado: 10-24-22
I enjoyed listening to this book which covers a large swath of scientific knowledge in an captivating way.. I just wished it had been updated to cover the discoveries and changes of the last 20 years (from Higgs Bosson, to global warming , to the demotion of pluto, to name a few...)

Historia
The traditional attitude toward creativity in the American business world is to "think outside the box": to brainstorm without restraint in hopes of coming up with a breakthrough idea, often in moments of crisis. Sometimes it works, but it’s a problem-specific solution that does nothing to engender creative thinking more generally. Inside the Box demonstrates Systematic Inventive Thinking (SIT), a method that systemizes creativity as part of the corporate culture. SIT requires thinking "inside the box", working in one’s familiar world to create new ideas independent of specific problems.

Interesting approach to innovation
Revisado: 06-05-21
The book presents a systematic approach to innovation, which seems to contradict some common held beliefs. By the end of the book, I was convinced this has real merit and I plan to try to apply this in my research work. However, getting through the beginning of the book requires some perseverance. The narration sounds a bit like a commercial . listening at faster speed (even 1.3x) helped.

Great overview of the lean product design
Revisado: 06-27-19
You immediately agree with it and it all makes sense. However it amazing how actual products teams fail in following these ideas. Serves as a compass you can take with you...

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Wakes up you from complacency over sleep
Revisado: 12-15-17
The author presents a compelling analysis on the critical importance of sleep and the dangers of the modern dismissive attitude toward it. Using both scientific studies and arguments that resonate with the long forgotten common sense,
he was able to make me reevaluate my own sleeping patterns and make accommodations based on the recommendations from the book.
