Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Tragic and Beautiful. Wonderful narrator
Revisado: 04-13-25
I highly recommend this book. An inside look at the foster care system in rural America and the deep wounds of the prescription drug market /addiction on those communities. You will fall in love with young Damon (Demon) and find yourself yelling at him (“NO Demon!”) or cheering him on. This book doesn’t disappoint from the first chapter to the end, you’ll be won over by the perfect narration, the beautiful descriptive words of heart & mind, as well as flora and fauna. Thank you Barbara Kingslover for this masterpiece.
My only negative comment is that I’m already missing this book!

Sarah Bessey is an expert at faithfully stumbling forward. As a New York Times bestselling author and co-founder of Evolving Faith, the foremost community for progressive Christians, she has been trusted by thousands of people to pursue a reconstruction of faith centered on compassion, truth, and inclusion. Bessey has found a deeply underserved and underestimated remnant in the wilderness of Christianity who are still devoted to Jesus, deeply rooted in the Gospel, fascinated with Scripture, and committed to reimagining their faith.

What’s saving your life right now?
Revisado: 03-23-24
THIS. This book is saving my life right now, my faith, instilling hope again. There’s someone out there who “gets it” and she’s kind. She’s kind in her presentation of deconstruction, and I need that. When the last chapter came, I cried. I didn’t want it to end! So I’ll start it again and I’ll buy the hard copy for underlining. I already bought two copies for friends on their journey through the wilderness. Thank you for this it means so much.

While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Ann Patchett + Meryl Streep = A WIN WIN !!
Revisado: 10-04-23
I have loved all of Ann Patchett’s books, this one is no exception.. it’s stunningly beautiful. The story line is so engaging, you can’t stop listening. The characters, the scenery, she paints a beautiful picture for us and it just keeps unfolding, drawing us in. AND THEN, there’s MERYL STREEP!! Wow! How lovely it is to be read to by her. And she is stunning (as always) when I picture Emily (aka;Lara) she IS Meryl Streep in my minds eye. What an incredible narration.
I do hope you will read/listen to this book, it’s absolutely magnificent on every count. This has been my favorite audio book so far this year. Enjoy!

Nature holds the answers for Raynor and her husband, Moth. After walking 630 miles homeless along The Salt Path, the windswept and wild English coastline now feels like their home. She did it again. You MUST listen to this book after The Salt Path.
Revisado: 01-13-22
Raynor has written another stunningly beautiful book. I am continually in awe of her art. The way she bends and turns words with such beauty that I often find myself in tears at the wonder of them. Her love for the earth and her husband, their adventures from when they first met, to their current mid-life struggles and how they continue to press on is so inspiring. You must read this follow up to the Salt Path, listening to it in the authors own voice, only adds another layer of beautiful reality to it all. Thank you Raynor (& Moth)for sharing this with us all.

Just days after Raynor learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years, is terminally ill, the couple lose their home and their livelihood. With nothing left and little time, they make the brave and impulsive decision to walk the 630 miles of the sea-swept South West Coast Path, from Somerset to Dorset via Devon and Cornwall. They have almost no money for food or shelter and must carry only the essentials for survival on their backs as they live wild in the ancient, weathered landscape of cliffs, sea and sky.

Revisado: 12-01-21
I truly enjoyed this book. At first I thought it might be too sad, but I hung in there and I’m glad I did! What a magnificent true story of a couple finding themselves homeless and choosing to do The Coastal Path rather than welfare housing. I loved that the author reads the book too. I don’t think anyone else could’ve gifted us with the sincerity of emotion as she does. What a beautiful story. I also liked the facts and statistics on the homeless that she gives and shares honestly what it felt like to be “one of them” now. It’s brutally honest and I appreciate her insight, since it was coming from someone who had an ordinary, middle class life & suddenly loses everything. It was a wake up call in these current times. I admire their courage and sense of adventure and how they lived on so little. I highly recommend this book. I’m going to follow up with some research to find out what happened next! Enjoy!

Another lovely, heartwarming book by Maeve Binchy
Revisado: 05-07-20
I’ve been binging on Maeve since Christmas. This was my sixth book, second one on Audible. The story and the narration were perfect. Another excellent, heartwarming novel. By the way, you’ll begin to notice that most of these books of hers have some recurring characters and neighborhoods. That’s so great because you get to look forward to finding out how things went with those characters after the last book ended. Lovely, just lovely!
