A "blast" to read
Revisado: 07-16-15
I started this book very skeptical that I would enjoy it. I was excited about the concept, but doubted it was going to be executed correctly. I openly admit I was wrong. This book delivered, and I was laughing and intrigued within minutes of starting my audiobook.
I enjoyed the themes explored in this book. It exposed the superhuman for who they were... human. I found this text to be somewhat reminiscent of Watchmen. It was not as dark as the aforementioned, however it did showcase the world of Heroes and Villains, as more than just black and white.

Historia
Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

Better than Bossypants!
Revisado: 08-02-13
Great listen! I began listening to IEHOWM during a 5k race. Mindy’s wit and comedic beginnings drew me in from the start. I focused more on the book than the race. I love that Mindy narrated it herself. This book is perfect. It is better than Bossypants. I only make that comparison because it seems these days any book released by a female comedian with a known presence in television is immediately compared to Bossypants. I can't wait for her next book which I'm sure will come out in the near future, because of the success of her recent show.

In the beginning, I found this book annoying. I was ashamed to admit it. I felt I must have a female inadequacy somehow. However, at some point, I'm not sure when, the book made me go all gooey inside. I now understand why so many treasure it so.

When he turned 13 in 1980, Rob Sheffield had a lot to learn about women, love, music and himself, and in Talking to Girls About Duran Duran we get a glimpse into his transformation from pasty, geeky "hermit boy" into a young man with his first girlfriend, his first apartment, and a sense of the world.

Revisado: 03-19-12
This book was just ok. I enjoyed the 80's references and hearing what it was like to experience the 80's first hand. However, Half way through the book I just stopped caring. It got old. He doesn't even mention Duran Duran until the very very end. I found the assumptions he made to be annoying. FYI I'm a female. I enjoy The Clash way more than Duran Duran. It was a coming of age story, and I expected to see character build up. There was none. No big ending. Just more of the same.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

A beautiful work. I wish I could rate this book 6 stars or 10 or a million stars. I loved the narration of old Jacob just as much, or perhaps a little more than that of young Jacob. It's a wonderful story with many themes. Both Narrators did a fantastic job. I laughed and cried and every feeling in between, brilliantly written.

Historia
English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

Just "RIGHT"
Revisado: 03-20-11
I loved this book. Wilbur Larch is one of my favorite literary characters of all time now. He shares many of my same views on abortion and religion. When I purchased the book I had no idea what I was getting into, but what a surprise it was fantastic. I listened to it frequently at work and alot of it was awkward for a co-worker to walk in during, but aside from that the narration was wonderful. I want to listen to more books read by Grover Gardner just to hear his voice again.

It took me a couple hours of listening to get into it, but once I did I was hooked. It reminded me of a show on cartoon network "ADVENTURE TIME!" If after you read this book, and you dearly love it. You should truely look up this program. Anyways, The characters were inventive and animated. The narration should win an award for sure. The voices portrayed fit the characters like a glove. The book was 24hrs long; but when it was over, it felt too short.

Revisado: 02-19-11
A wonderful book that made me ponder about what secrets lie in my past. It is Whimsical and Mysterious; by the end of the book you feel as if you know the characters as one would a dear friend. Caroline Lee brings a life to the book that is endearing. Her reading is a perfect match for this novel. This book is for the young at heart. Those without a sense of wonderment need not read.
