Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

One of Those Books
Revisado: 04-03-19
This book was so great to listen to I didn't want it to end. Just one of those books you could listen to forever. The reader's voice was so calming and clear, the storyline was exceptional. Great development of characters. Nothing to not like with this one.

Best Debut Novel
Revisado: 10-20-06
I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews on this book - especially since it is a debut. Well, I sure am glad I decided to listen. The first 15 - 20 minutes almost convinced me that people must be right - but DON'T let those first few minutes sway you - have a few more minutes of patience and this book will grab you! Wow what a debut - I find it hard to think that Ms. Setterfield can top this!

You'll burn more gas!!
Revisado: 01-31-06
This is a fantastic book. Yes, there is a bit of
a language barrier for the narrator (in various pronunciations) but I do not think it took away from the wonderful story in any way. The narrator's voice is so smooth and flowing that you cannot help but sink into this audible totally. I, like others, found that I just wanted to keep riding around instead of going home so I could keep listening. (Not a good thing to get in the habit of with gas prices so high.)

A walk down memory lane
Revisado: 07-06-05
I have never read anything else by this author so I was skeptical about this book but it was delightful. It is rich in "signs of the time" and the reality of a child's imagination that is trying to cope with pressures and guilt, most of it self-imposed out of a sense of responsibility. Trevanian has captured the essence of growing up in poverty in a small city. I found so many things that related to my own childhood that at times I could still feel the burden and I think the only escape was to develop a rich imagination. I hated the story to end. A lot of books written about this time frame are written from a rural setting and we see how hard it is to run the farm or make a living from the land - this gives an urban view from the eyes of an intelligent ambitious young boy.

Historia
The ordeal of the whaleship Essex was an event as mythic in the nineteenth century as the sinking of the Titanic was in the twentieth. In 1819 the Essex left Nantucket for the South Pacific with 20 crew members aboard. In the middle of the South Pacific the ship was rammed and sunk by an angry sperm whale. The crew drifted for more than 90 days in three tiny whaleboats, succumbing to weather, hunger, and disease and ultimately turning to drastic measures in the fight for survival.

Historia
A terrified 3-year-old boy is found clinging to a wire fence at the side of a country road. His mother had whispered to him to never let go, then she vanished. The only clue found by authorities as to the child's identity is a photograph of two summering teenage girls and a letter presumably written from one to the other.

Very disappointing
Revisado: 04-17-05
I read reviews from other sites and decided to have a listen anyway -
"This was the worst book I think I've ever had on audio - and that would be many." I guess the "overall" story was alright but the narration was terrible. The details seemed meaningless AND endless - this is the first book I wished I had downloaded the abridged version of!

Historia
Comedy writer and middle daughter of Al Gore, Kristin Gore has written a funny and moving debut novel about life on Capitol Hill as seen through the eyes of Samantha Joyce, a 26-year-old health care analyst to Ohio Junior Senator Robert Gary. Hard working, idealistic, extremely competent, as well as neurotic and prone to daydreaming, Sammy, as she's known to her friends, has little time for anything, much less a relationship.

Enjoyable listen!
Revisado: 01-11-05
No, it's not an intense drama about DC life or the funniest book I've ever read but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Yes, the character pretends she's armless, blind and stricken with various other anomalies but who of us haven't wondered what life would be like if we were stricken? So Sammy plays them out a little. She's a young girl living on her own in a new and fast paced situation and she has a hard time thinking she's worthy of such a position. It's comical and I found myself laughing several times on my way to work - that itself has to be a feat! She does get in some sneaky political statements but they even tend to provoke a smile. It's great for a lighthearted listen.
