Historia
New York Times best-selling author Nalini Singh delivers a smoldering story with Secrets at Midnight, as the scent of Bastien Smith's elusive lover ignites a possessiveness in him that's as feral as it is ecstatic. And now that he's found his mate, he'll do anything to keep her.

The southern twang killed the mood
Revisado: 03-22-25
Story #1 is pretty great. The characters are fun to follow and the witting is good. However, the narrator’s voice for Kirby made her sounds like some old lady from who knows where lol so it completely killed the mood.
Story #4 is why i listened to this collection of shorter stories. I love that incredible world. “A heart of blood and ashes” was SOMETHING ELSE! I loved it. The writing and the storytelling is superb.

Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th-century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trades she uses to get by - palm readings, zars, and a mysterious gift for healing - are all tricks, both the means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles and a reliable way to survive. But when Nahri accidentally summons Dara, an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior, to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to reconsider her beliefs.

Excellent writing
Revisado: 01-10-25
Loved the writing, loved how Middle Eastern mythology felt so real and embodied in the story. Loved the complicated characters, who do what they can to fight for what they believe in or survive. The world building is exquisite. I did have to try to decipher the politics, it’s so complex. Overall an excellent read. 0 smut, love story line is present, but it does not define the characters. Highly recommend!

When our lives fall apart, we often feel broken, ashamed, and deeply alone. But what if you knew, as you experienced this descent, that it was mapped out in a myth thousands of years old? What if, despite the uniqueness of your own life and experiences, each stage of the process was universal? The journey of descent and rising is the core initiation of the feminine—the heroine’s journey—one traveled by billions of women before you.

Love MOST of the book.
Revisado: 03-18-24
This is a brilliant book! The story on Inanna is precious to those of us doing shadow work. Carly has been so spot on with helping me relate different parts of the myth to my real life events and inner experiences. It’s written and narrated so beautifully. I am having a hard time with so much negative narrative about the patriarchy. Doing enough shadow work I understand that my feelings towards the portrayal of this narrative are a huge mirror for my own Anima and Animus and how they are related inside. However, it’s hard to continue to listen to how negative everything has been and is… It’s almost like I need to hear about the power of the Feminine more than about Her oppression on my way down into the wilderness of my Underworld. The reason I’m bringing this up is of course our suffering needs to be acknowledged and held, but we come to this realm TO DO the work and to experience hardship, that’s the entire purpose of this place, to give us the curriculum. So when we talk about how absolutely devastating it has been to be a woman and a human for Millenias, I keep needing to hear more about Her power at the same time to feel balanced. But overall this read IS A MUST if you are doing shadow work!!!

By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years.

Stellar. Brilliant. So well written!
Revisado: 01-03-24
I absolutely LOVED this book from start to finish. Her life story is captivating and devastating at the same time. It’s movie plot worthy. The research was super helpful. Narration is so captivating and wonderful to listen to. I could not put it down, I kept wanting to hear more and more. It was so refreshing for once to hear about CPTSD, or any psychological disorder, from a perspective of the experiencer rather than an expert. Journalists really do make the best book writers. I highly recommend this read. I see how it could be super triggering for those who went through extensive trauma from getting beat up by their parents. That wasn’t my experience, however I do have CPTSD so it was very helpful for me to learn more information about it. I think at the very end, though the Author called it a “beast” and she continued to talk about “fighting it”… it differs from my belief system of how to integrate trauma. I think it needs to be loved, understood and accepted no matter how ugly and how painful. Other than the very ending of the book I loved every minute of it.

Wow!
Revisado: 04-07-22
I cannot begin to describe the unbelievable experience I just received from immersing myself into this piece. I have a hard time calling this an audiobook. This is a masterpiece, this is the writing of the soul. I have been diving into the concept of self worth and trying to understand why am so drawn to discovering it. And going through this book not only gave me the answers but also gave me the keys to the Doors in my own soul that I’ve been so desperately looking for! From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

This book as a sales pitch for hormone replacement therapy! Which is absolutely questionable in my book!
