Historia
"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." Practice what you preach
Revisado: 09-23-21
This book is a good compilation of many influential peoples’ quotes. After the epilogue, there’s a conversation with Tim Ferris for an hour and a half that is very interesting. The thing that is disappointing is that you get the feeling that Ryan does not exactly practice what he preaches. He does discuss some of his “non-stoic” actions and try to drag Tim down with him but Tim doesn’t take the bait.
I have read a few of his books but that last conversation gave me a little glimpse into his mind that I had a very different opinion of. It’s like a coach who knows the game but can’t play it. Needless to say, I won’t be reading any more of his books. I’ll find someone else that can further teach me about stoicism, which I love, that will be more credible.

Historia
For decades we have been taught that fat is bad for us, carbohydrates better, and that the key to a healthy weight is eating less and exercising more. Yet despite this advice, we have seen unprecedented epidemics of obesity and diabetes. Taubes argues that the problem lies in refined carbohydrates, like white flour, easily digested starches, and sugars, and that the key to good health is the kind of calories we take in, not the number.

Long but informative
Revisado: 07-08-21
This is a long book with a lot of data to support the hypothesis. The mountain of data seems a little too much and a lot of the old data is not very reliable due to the lack of technology in birthing the information.
My favorite part is near the end when the author says that what the medical industry claims as science is not really science if you put it to the test. Science questions everything and medical “science” doesn’t question the larger than life characters driving it, which is very disappointing.

Intriguing hypothesis
Revisado: 09-25-19
Very cleverly written with wit and sense of humor. The hypothesis seems just as believable as any other that is supported by tons of “studies” just like all the others. Was a little disappointed that it wasn’t based more
On science rather than citing studies.
The medical Profession seems to thrive on citing studies rather than rely on actual biology/science. It’s ok to guess based on studies but it can’t be stated as fact based on them. That’s what I was hoping Dr. Kendrick would have avoided but, alas, he didn’t. He fell into the same traps as all doctors trying to “do” science.
I will read his other books to see if anything has been added since this book. I am hopeful his hypothesis is correct.
Side note, the reader of this book was very very good. Thoroughly enjoyed his reading style and voice. Bravo!

Absolutely riveting
Revisado: 01-10-18
Milo is not just an act. There is a whole lot of substance but you have to take his somewhat edginess with a grain of salt. When you actually listen to him, he makes a lot of sense and he is very factual and reasonable with his assertions.
I’m not gay but I do love him and what he is doing. I also understand why he is doing it the way he is doing it since I listened to this book. I’m glad I listened to the book rather than read it. He does a fantastic job reading it. This was my fastest listen. Thanks Milo. As I get older and more secure, I feel like I CAN be more dangerous.

I'm glad I "listened" to this book. It should be the only version available because without Kevin Hart's delivery, I imagine this book would only be half as good or less than that even. Hearing him read it made all the difference in the world to me.

Well written with historic accuracy
Revisado: 11-10-15
This was a very well written book addressing the Armenian genocide with a love story woven into it. The author carefully constructed the story to not offend the reader and logically laid out the story to make it believable. From what I know, the story is historically accurate and the controversial issues are interwoven into the love story. Whether true or fictional, it is a beautiful story of people being people but getting caught up in governmental brutalities. Enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone.

Historia
Starting in early 1915, the Ottoman Turks began deporting and killing hundreds of thousands of Armenians in the first major genocide of the 20th century. By the end of the First World War, the number of Armenians in what would become Turkey had been reduced by 90 percent - more than 1,000,000 people. A century later, the Armenian genocide remains controversial but relatively unknown, overshadowed by later slaughters and the chasm separating Turkish and Armenian versions of events.

Great book, unbiased view finally
Revisado: 10-30-15
I liked this book because it seemed a lot more factual from all perspectives. I am Armenian and now understand why and how the genocide happened.
Although what the Turks did is unforgivable, I see how they came to the decisions they did. It was a hugely unfortunate aligning of the stars for the genocide to happen but sometimes it happens like that. Armenians happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
As an Armenian, I was very disturbed hearing this book read to me but I needed to hear it from a different perspective than what I was taught while growing up. I would like to hear another book now from a biased from Turkish point of view so I can understand their justification for not admitting the genocide happened.
Very good book. I recommend it to everyone.

Historia
There have been many books - on a large and small scale - about Steve Jobs, one of the most famous CEOs in history. But this book is different from all the others. Becoming Steve Jobs takes on and breaks down the existing myth and stereotypes about Steve Jobs. The conventional, one-dimensional view of Jobs is that he was half genius, half jerk from youth, an irascible and selfish leader who slighted friends and family alike.

Historia
Charles Darwin did not deliberately set out to be the destroyer of mythical beliefs,” some of which, in his early days as a young Christian, he had previously espoused. He was a modest man who liked to avoid controversy of any kind, yet paradoxically, he was to be the cause of the greatest controversy in the history of science and religion. When Darwin embarked on the HMS Beagle in late December 1831, bound for the southern hemisphere, he could not have imagined that the experience would lead him to formulate a theory that would totally revolutionize the way in which we viewed the natural world.
