The book was good. It also was more big picture than I expected. Lots of tangents. But well worth the listen.

This is a summary and analysis of the White Fragility and not the original book. Robin DiAngelo tackles the issue of racism in America by challenging white supremacy. She asks white people to examine their culture and socialization in order to understand and disrupt racism as a system and structure.

It’s seems like a good synopsis. I’ll let you know after I read the book. Made me reflect on my own behavior. I can’t say if the author is 100% right but there is a lot to think about. If she is right we have a long way to go because according to her white america is finding ways to avoid the topic while appearing engaged in the resolution. It must really irritate black people the author suggests can see right though this dodging tactic.

Historia
Space is a world devoid of the things we need to live and thrive: air, gravity, hot showers, fresh produce, privacy, beer. Space exploration is in some ways an exploration of what it means to be human. How much can a person give up? How much weirdness can they take? What happens to you when you can’t walk for a year? Have sex? Smell flowers? What happens if you vomit in your helmet during a space walk? Is it possible for the human body to survive a bailout at 17,000 miles per hour?

Completely fascinating

The book was interesting throughout from beginning to end. It did take me a while to get adjusted to the narrator reading the notes but once I did that was fine too. highly recommended.

Oddly done
Revisado: 04-18-16
Where does With the Old Breed rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
There are two narrators. Not heard this before. There are apparently two stories going on here or at least that is what the narration would make it seem to be. I finally had to by the book to understand it. I have bailed on the audio book as I could could not follow the transitions and I missed the maps.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
There are some serious pauses as if he lost his place and then it was pointed out to him. The makes the sentences in places make less sens in the audio version than they do in the actual book
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The Pacific?
Any additional comments?
The narrator did a better job as Sledge in The Pacific than in this book.

Historia
This, the first in the series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, R.N., and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging.

I like listening much more than reading this book. I would have liked to understand the nautically term better and there were few explanations.
